Newbie trying to figure it all out - VGC??

I just went back to my first post on this thread and I said "Realistically it may be another year before we can purchase" HAHAHA! I guess I just got a little too antsy.
Or you spent too much time on this forum, with the enablers who make me want to add on at every new resort as well as the old ones, all of which will expire long after I do. Fortunately, my old original points are still good everywhere, so I can make do without buying.

If you want them to use when booking, yes, you have to bank.

However, if you have enough 2024 points to book without needing to borrow, you can do that and bank later in case you want to travel.

Then, when you do bank, you go in and modify the existing trip without changing it and it will pick up the banked points.

It’s not automatic so you have to remember to do but I’ve done this before.

We're pretty good on planning trips super far in advance as we've always done this anyway. And adding other trips along the way isn't usually possible for us. So here's what we're thinking (if this sale works out!)

June 2024 - Disneyland, studio - Using banked 2023 points.
February 2025 - WDW, studio (I know a lot of people think using VGC points for other resorts is dumb but I don't care.) - Using the remainder of the banked 2023 points plus however many 2024 points we need and banking the rest into 2025.
December 2025 - Disneyland, possibly in a 1-bedroom. We'd used the banked points, plus all of 2025 points, and then likely a handful of 2026 points.

Hopefully I'm doing all of this right!

Sounds right to me!!!

Phew! I'm glad I've finally figured out how it works (for the most part.)

I will need to figure out what to do with the 25 points they have banked into 2023 that I know we won't be using.

Book a studio for one night and sell it as a confirmed reservation? It could generate up to $450 that you can use toward your VGC purchase.

The only thing I can see that is missing is a trip to Aulani 😁

My 13 year old son told me that Hawaii changed his perspective on life 🤣

I might look into doing something like that through one of the rental sites because then I feel like they will be able to help me do it without too much stress.

Ha! Not too sure about that. Too much flying for me.

You get wifi and watch two movies or a few Netflix shows and you are there.

You can make it part of a Disneyland trip one year to break it up.

Our son started to lose his mind around the 2 hour mark for our recent trip. It was rough. Then we had a delay and he melted down. Then we were stuck on the tarmac when we landed forever. Needless to say....that's why we're driving for our next trip. Ha!

CONGRATULATIONS!! I did that too - told DH we should buy DVC in about a year, and we were in ROFR for our first contract within a few weeks. Then we added another resort in under a year *and* convinced another friend to buy DVC as well (they were already thinking about it; we enabled each other.)
We'll need to figure out what we want to do with the 25 that expire May 31st, 2024.
If you rent/transfer the points early enough, they will get snapped up right away.

Wow. I did not know that. I have set up a calendar alert to remember my banking deadlines.

We are going to AUL in a few weeks. Should I be worried??!! 🙃
We love that Hawaii is only about 45 minutes further away than Orlando. Grew up vacationing in HI. We started taking our son when he was 5.
Ugh. This is where I am super jealous of people who live on the West Coast. DL and HI so close...

YES! There is a chance you will be overcome with a level of low stress and increased happiness that will make you want to go back over and over again!

Have a safe and wonderful trip!

Funny, we say the same thing about people who live close to DLR or WDW.
Well, in Hawaii it’s spring all year, with flowers blooming and pleasant temperatures, and you’re on Hawaii Time, which is a special version of Island Time, so….
Not! It was cold for like 2 weeks a few weeks ago! I had to wear a sweater, with a hoodie! It was awful.

Here in So Cal we like to think of it as the Goldilocks location, as far as Disney goes...
