Thanks to all of you who helped me take the plunge. I bought my points on Thursday night from my dinsey salesman. I have not received the fed-ex package yet so I do not know an ID or member number of any sort....

My questions are:

1. Can I make my reservations now based upon the fact I have made my down-payment.

2. What is the phone number and what are the hours to make reservations ?

I'm pretty sure you can't until you sign all the papers and return them, you are not a member. You don't have any kind of contract yet so there's no way MS could make a reservation as you don't technically have the points yet.

Remember, even though they sent you the packet of papers, you could still decline to purchase.

You won't be in the system until they get the papers back and assign a membership number.
 
Actually you can make a reservation now. The reservation cannot normally occur until after your closing or the building you own is open--whichever comes later. Although DVC will occasionally make exceptions to this rule, requiring the potential member to sign an agreement which stipulates the compensation due to DVC if the closing does not occur as scheduled.

But, if you want to vacation at a time after your closing--no problem. DVC will take the reservation now, subject to the 11/7 month booking windows. If you fail to close for some reason, the reservation is simply cancelled. No harm, no foul.

Normally you would contact Member Services directly to book a stay. But since you don't have an ID handy, start by calling your Guide. He/she can verify that you are set-up correctly in the computer, and then transfer you to MS to actually book your first stay.

I bought over the phone and my guide said I could make my first reservation later that afternoon, as soon as they put my down payment in the system. He said to give MS my social sercurity # if I didn't have my ID # when I needed to call. Turns out I didn't need to make my first reservation until about 6 weeks later, so I didn't test it.

MS is open Monday - Friday, 9 AM to 5:30 PM. (Thursday until 7 PM). All times are Eastern. Best times to call are usually Wednesday - Friday afternoons.

We are not allowed to post the toll free number here. (Check your PMs). The "regular" number to Member Services is 407-566-3800

I had a similar experience when buying with a credit card. Actually my guide gave me a Member number and I used it to make a reservation pretty much right away. (Actually I got on waiting list, but I'm pretty sure I would have had an actual reservation if a room was available.)
 
I believe our guide helped us reserve before we "signed at the palm trees". I would call your guide and see if you can do this.
 
Thanks everyone. My guide is off on Mondays. Will call him tomorrow as we are not in the system yet. :confused3
 
Good news. It was just a data entry delay. We called back this afternoon and are in the system. We booked our first trip home !!!
