Hi All,

We're East Coast folks and have been to DisneyWorld many times. We're considering crossing the country and taking our first trip to DisneyLand in January. I was reading the threads on this board and see lots of people referring to MM. Can someone tell me what MM is? Is it an early entry for resort guests like Extra Magic Hours are at DisneyWorld? Also, anyone familiar with crowd levels in late January (we'll be there on a Friday through a Wednesday). Appreciate any help anyone can throw our way. We're really starting from scratch here. Thanks.

MM= magical mornings.......entry to DL one hour earlier then normal opening time.

MM (formerly known as EE) allows certain folks to enter DL & ride certain rides one hour early on Tue/Thur/Sat/Sun. I just bumped a Magic Morning super thread with all the info.

And i responded to your other post (in the other thread) with:

Welcome to the DLR board, doriemg.

You'll get all/most of your questions answered here & you'll love planning a visit to Walt's Park.

The first step is to read Mary Jo & HydroGuy's stickys at the top of the first DL page. Print HydroGuy's abreviation (achronym) thread first. Read his DLR for WDW VET thread next....& then all the rest.

Good luck!

Just remember when reading through these threads and looking for advice...that a lot of things are opinions. Just opinions. And opinions vary so don't assume what one person tells you is gospel. And seeking advice out from locals can help a lot in figuring your way around the area.

Good luck on your planning.

Appreciate all the info! Thanks to you all our planning is off to a good start.

Um, yes this is an opinion board.

But when many people (from SoCal & from elsewhere) give similar opinions it gives people info they can run with.

Also, there are are some actual "facts", that are known by many but not by all. (such as "what are MM/EE days"....."do i have to ride a bus from DCA to DL", & a hundred others). When i post on the WDW board i welcome opinions on restaurants & facts regarding crowds & FP rides (& i appreciate info from those who live in Orlando & those who live in Birmingham).

I find the above post contrary. I also found the argument that "high heat with high humidity" is better than "high heat with low humidity" as contrary. I know our disers from Neb, are lovers of DL....but i don't know why they find fault with so many Dis'ers posts.

17. Magic Mornings (Early Entry) at DLR vs. Extra Magic Hours at WDW

DLR and WDW have a history of offering extended park hours to certain visitors. These perks change over time and the current form of these perks will most likely change in the future. Therefore the information in this section is the most likely of all sections in this guide to become outdated.

Magic Mornings (MM) is the current name for what has been known as Early Entry for several years. MM is identical to EE in every way except when they changed the name in January 2008 they also changed the days of the week. So when you see the words Early Entry (or EE in short form) it is the same thing as Magic Mornings (MM).

The DLR Magic Mornings and WDW Extra Magic Hours (EMH) are recent perks offered to guests. Similar to EMH, paying attention to how MM works will have a major impact on how you plan your days at DLR.

MM is offered at DL on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Note that EE was not on Sunday but Monday, with the other days of the week the same as MM. During MM DL opens 1 hour early for certain guests. The rides open during MM are fairly regular but subject to change on any day. During MM most of the FantasyLand rides are open, as are Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters and Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage in TomorrowLand.

Officially the only way to get MM is to buy a 3+ day parkhopper bonus ticket. Note that most DLR tickets are bonus tickets, but some (such as those offered by the military) are not (or so I have heard). If a guest buys one of these 3+ day bonus tickets, they are entitled to one MM morning during their trip. It does not matter if the guest stays at a DLR hotel, a good neighbor hotel, or any hotel for that matter.

In July 2005 DLR started offering MM (EE) to its DLR hotel guests. When this second MM access method began it was described as a “test”, which meant it could be stopped at any time. This test has now gone on for a year and some DLR hotel guests have come to regard it as a perk and not a test. In any case, if you are a DLR hotel guest you can use MM on every day it is offered while you stay at the hotel, not just on one day as the “official” bonus ticket visitors are allowed. At least you can as long as the “test” continues.

DCA does not have an MM program. However, GCH guests are regularly allowed into the park early (there is a special DCA entrance from the GCH). On most mornings DCA opens its gates 30 minutes early and opens one ride, Soarin’ Over California. So even if you get to the DCA gates right at official park opening you may face a pre-existing line on this ride. Fortunately it has FastPass.

Another early entry perk of sorts is Mickey’s ToonTown Morning Madness (TTMM). ToonTown at DL typically opens one hour after official park opening, and TTMM allows certain guests to get into ToonTown one hour early. Since TTMM is one hour before ToonTown’s typical one hour delayed opening, it begins right when DL regular park hours begin. And TTMM is not necessarily on the same days as MM. Right now it is offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

I have never done TTMM so this is second-hand. During TTMM a mock ceremony is held and access to characters is provided. Apparently the TT rides (of which there are only a few) are also open.

TTMM is obtained by simply booking your trip through Disney or certain authorized agents, and does require you to stay at a DLR or Good Neighbor hotel. Unlike MM, TTMM does not have such a major effect on DL traffic patterns. But TTMM will affect Toontown traffic patterns as there will already be lines when ToonTown officially opens to everyone. If you want to visit ToonTown and do not have TTMM privileges, it is best to visit it on a non-TTMM day. And go early.

So how should you use or plan around MM? First, if you have MM you should definitely use it. This is contrary to certain advice for WDW to avoid EMH parks. Second, MM should be focused on the FantasyLand rides. These rides are very close together physically and are often 2-3 minutes in length. So you can do a lot of the FantasyLand rides in that one hour – I have heard of people doing 9 different rides – we have done 7. None of the DL FantasyLand rides have FastPass, and thus rides like Peter Pan, Dumbo and Matterhorn must be done first thing in the morning to avoid lengthy lines later in the day. MM is a perfect time to do them.

Some people are tempted to go to the headliner rides during MM, namely Space Mountain and Buzz Lightyear. Both of these rides have FastPass (FP), and as such can be ridden any time of day with a short line using FP, unlike the FantasyLand rides which do not have FP. It is therefore wise to focus on FantasyLand (or possibly Finding Nemo Subs) during MM.

If you visit DLR during high season, that means an 8AM park opening and 7AM MM. All else being equal, if you only have one MM day I think it is best to use MM on the first possible day you can – preferably the very first day of your trip - because you will have the most energy that day (no park day on the previous day) and, if you can manage it, and earlier bedtime than other nights where you may stay late at the parks.

What if it is an MM day (Sun/Tue/Thu/Sat) but you yourself do not have MM? On such days even if you arrive at the parks before they open and are first in line for regular opening you will face long lines in FantasyLand right away. Such days are thus good days to avoid FantasyLand altogether. They are also good days to go to DCA.

In summary there is no other way to slice it. If you want to do FantasyLand during high season without extremely long lines, either do it during MM or do it first thing on a non-MM day.

I recommend you check this lengthy thread on MM which is kept up to date by the author: "Magic Morning (Early Entry) Super Thread" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1675403

Also, anyone familiar with crowd levels in late January (we'll be there on a Friday through a Wednesday).
Late January tends to be low season so some rides will be probably be down. Weekends tend to be crowded no matter what time of year. Weekdays less so.

Just to clarify...I did say that "a lot" of things on these boards were opinions. I didn't say ALL.

Oh...and I think you read too much into my posts.

While I may live in Nebraska, I'm certainly not from there. I come to this board with almost 30 years of Orange County experience so I am far from a novice. When I see a place where I think my opinion (just that) would be valued by somebody looking for objective statements on both sides I give it. If people are wrong when making a statement about something that I happen to know the correct answer to I also correct them. I never belittle them by saying that they're dumb or that I know more because I've been more times than them.

If I think my tips or opinions will be useful to people so I give them. I apologize if I'm misinterpreted by anybody. I like to believe I have some very valuable knowledge. I may not have sticky posts but that doesn't invalidate any tips I may give on these boards. They're here for everybody to use and comment on. I have just as much a right to post here as long as I play by the rules and I do.

I don't find fault with anybody save for the occasional statement that is just plain wrong. If I have corrected you in the past or given a contrary opinion on weather, traffic, crowds, airports, etc, I'm just contributing to give our guests the most accurate and balanced information possible.

I'm allowed to have my own preference.

Wow. Are you serious? Yes, these are opinion boards, but I have to side with Hound here. You're basically telling the OP that they shouldn't believe something that we say on here, just because there is the possibility of incorrect information. I have found these boards extremely helpful (whether it be an opinion question or a fact question) and I don't see how you can say that.

I would have to agree with Hound and DLR here. I've been a member for just over a year.....you guys have all helped me tons and I've learned so much here. In fact, in my circle of friends at work and with family I am now known as the DL expert because of things I've learned here. Opinions or facts, I've loved everything I've learned from you guys.

To the OP, I really hope you have a GREAT trip to DL and I know you will learns tons of excellent tips and info here. This is best board I've found for DL info. :)

I think Bee was telling people to do their homework and take it ALL in. She might have been telling the OP that the locals may have better insight on getting around the area and navigating the park. I don't think she really came out and said, "The people on these boards are wrong and you should listen to a person who has been to the park more times."

These boards are useful but they certainly aren't the be all end all. Not all of the information is completely accurate which is why we all need to do our part to make sure the most relevant and precise information is given to first timers and other people who are not familiar with the parks.

While she is a contributor I believe she also seeks out information on here like the rest of us. If you want a taste of her character you can read her Disneyworld trip report. Looks like a Disney lover first and foremost.

Exactly, thank you. People seem to read too much into posts every now and then.

I read it as DLR read it.

People here respectully disagree on topics (& opinions) all the time. I enjoy seeing differing opinions. If 5% of the information (opinions) offered here is incorrect, a DLR newbie still has 95% of accurate info that might prove helpful. Especially if they're starting from scratch.

I would suggest info on the DIS board delivers more accurate info (& certainly more timely info) than most 1-2 year old books on DLR (or for that matter WDW). But even books serve a purpose for big picture info.

wow. people get pretty defensive on these boards. it's entertaining. i don't see what the big deal was about my original post. whatever. i suppose you can read however you want. it doesn't really effect me at all. good evening to you all.
