Newbie question: upgrades

DH and I are looking at booking an adults only Egypt trip (in early 2023 or fall 2022) as our first ABD trip. We are looking at booking through DU to do it. We have done everything else Disney offers and then some, and we travel extensively on our own all over the world. So using a travel agent and going the "tour" route is new to us, but if we're ever going to try Egypt, I think this is the way to go.

I see what the standard offerings are at the hotels and on the ship. Are upgrades available for those rooms and cabins? For example, if we want a better state room on the M/S Tulip than what's included, can we pay more to get that (assuming it's available)?

To my knowledge, ABD does not allow upgrades. Everyone gets the same class of rooms. The only exceptions I know to this are the River cruises and the DCL add-ons, because you book/choose the cabins yourself when you book the adventure. But for normal land adventures, ABD assigns the rooms and does not allow (again to my knowledge) for people to upgrade.

I think it may be possible. On one of my ABDs, I was speaking with a guide privately, and she mentioned in the context of the conversation that sometimes people do upgrade to fancier rooms but that it's kept quiet so that it doesn't stick out with the rest of the group. Speaking with Kevin (I assume that's the DU agent you're using; he's the bomb!) should answer the question for sure.

Got a response and you're right, no upgrades are offered. Everybody gets the same accommodations. TOTALLY fine, and in fact a relief that Disney doesn't bombard their travelers with constant upgrade "opportunities" as many others do.

You can sometimes upgrade directly with the hotel. We have done this a few times on Wyoming and Arizona trip
