Newbie Question on making reservations and transferred points

We are thinking of buying DVC, and we would probably start with a minimum normal amount of points - basically enough points to reserve a week in a studio.

But, sometimes my Mom comes with us on vacation. This doesn't happen every year so I wouldn't want to buy points to cover it, but when she does decide to come I want to be able to reserve a second studio for her.

I am trying to figure out how this would work. Lets assume we buy at BWV and I know she is coming more than 7 months ahead of time. Also, I don't want to borrow points from next year, because I plan on using them then. So, can I reserve 2 studios and then just make sure I have enough points by the time we go, or do I need to already have the extra points transferred into my account before I make the reservation? Do the points that I get transferred have to be from BWV in order to reserve more than 7 months ahead?

The points must be in your account, and located within the correct use year for the vacation dates you want.

If you want to reserve at a resort prior to the 7-month window, then the points must be 'home' resort points.

you can just rent the room with cash, you get a pretty good DVC discount I want to say 20%(might be 25 I can't recall which)..pretty good savings.

Or maybe rent 2 studios standard rather than preferred view at higher points

almost forgot, lot of folks actually will pay cash for the friday and saturday nights because those eat the most points. doing that may give you enough points for the rest of the reservation?
