Newbie question about tiny light on rides

Hi, I'm a newbie in the photography area and I've had this question that I can't find the answer to on any thread.
The tiny light that helps add light to the shots (not the flash) on the d90...is that okay to have on the dark rides like PotC, or do I have to turn that off somehow? I really don't risk taking pictures because I don't want others to get annoyed with my tiny light

I'm not familiar with the D90 functions but I assume you are refering to an auto focus assist light. I'ts not a good idea to have that on in any of the dark rides.

I'm sure some of the Nikon users on here can assist you with the menu function to turn it off on those occassions. You also may want to look through the user manual.

The small light does not add light to the shot, is is there to help the camera focus in low light. It is not on when the shutter trips. As to whether it's OK on the dark rides, I don't know. Depending on how dark it is, the small light may or may not be a problem since it's no where near as bright as a flash.

I say it it can be turned off, it should be.

I agree that I would turn it off. I have the D90 and on a ride like HM, or even POTC I think it would possibly be distracting to other people enjoying the ride. I also wouldn't use live view or have the camera set so that every shot you take turns on the LCD for review, as the LCD on the D90 (IMO) is pretty bright as well.

I have a light like that on my kodaks...there isn't a way to turn it off on them, so I got some eletrical tape, and just put it over the light. I'm sure this isn't the best option, but it worked for me. My photos didn't seem to suffer any.
