Hi, new to the board, began Atkins on 7/7 and its been four weeks. I weighed and measured then and havent since.

How often to weigh and measure? I am worried if I get on the scale and dont see a change I will have some cookies and milk.

Is there anyone out there that doesnt weigh in daily or weekly?

Thanks in advance for any replies. This is a wonderful board.

Also, anyone manage to stay faithful to Atkins and do the Disney Cruise? We are sailing September 13th on the Magic.

Welcome. :)

When I started Atkins, I weighed in at the beginning, then after the 2 week induction. I now weigh weekly, as I don't like to see the little day-to-day fluctuations. There are many people on WISH who do weigh daily, but not too many who don't weigh at all.

Hi grlzmom--

We are going to be on the 9/13 cruise also. Can't wait.

Hubby and I weigh in officially once a week...every Sunday morning. We take measurements every two weeks...easier for us to see the drops in inches. I record everything in the my journal section of atkins online to keep track. Then I don't have to write anything down..and it does all the subtracting for me.

Now...unofficially I hope on the scale on Wednesday mornings just to see how the week is going...lol. I am just to excited to see the pounds coming off, I like that little boost of loss in the middle of the week.

So...do what is right for you.

Hubby, drives himself crazy by weighing himself almost every day...I am trying to break him of that habit.

Thank you both for the replies.

I am going to make myself step on the scale Monday. Will have a little time to mentally prepare myself first. Also, I am afraid that once I have the guts to weigh myself I will become obsessed with it.

Webray, did you get your documents for cruise and stuff? Dh and I are very excited since we are cruising without the kiddos this time to celebrate our 10th anniversary. I am thinking it will be hard to stick with the plan on vacation. Also, wishing I had started Atkins a little sooner but dh didnt give me much notice on this trip. We are flying in the evening before and renting the car to drive to port.

Thanks again for the replies.

grlzmom,

Nope, we haven't gotten our documents yet. This is our first cruise ever and we are celebrating our 16th wedding anniversary.
Congrats to you by the way. We will not have any kids with us, (24, 22, 21).

We can hardly wait. We started atkins mid june.. about 2 weeks off the plan. I am down 25.5 pounds as of yesterday morning.

Look forward to meeting you..we are staying at the Radisson the night before...probably checking in around noon or so. We will be driving up from South florida.

I'm one of those people that weighs in every morning! I like to see how what I ate the day before affected my weight loss.

For instance, I've found that if I have ham for dinner, I won't be down as much in the morning because the sodium in the ham makes me retain water.

I like knowing every morning how I'm doing. If I wait til just once a week, and I'm only down 3 pounds instead of the 5 I was expecting, I could get discouraged. But, by watching it every day, I've learned how different foods/drinks affect my weight loss.

I weigh daily, to keep myself on track. My "official" weigh day is Mondays. I also measure then, too. I feel measuring is so important because, some weeks you won't lose, but you may lose inches!! I don't get discouraged then!! I am also so happy with the Atkins plan-I have never been this successful, and it feels great!!
Have fun on your cruise!!:p

I use an official day Monday/Tuesday if I am not near my official scale. I also will jump on in between, but I don't get too out of sorts if it shows ups and downs because that is normal. I know I am mostly losing and as long as I am keeping on plan I am ok with that. I like to especially see what I have done after the days after the rare moments I exercise.

So, obsess...perhaps, but it is enjoyable to see things going down.

I measured almost 1 month ago, and will do that again after it becomes a full month maybe. So far I have measurements for only 2x this year--in March before I began an official anything and then in July after I had been officially doing Atkins/low carb (since mid-May). Now that was impressive! I am considering waiting another month for measurements because that recording of inches lost was such a joyous experience, I want to repeat it with another large amount of inches. (silly me)

Good luck to you and everyone. Have fun with this!
Keep on keepin' on.

I just started Atkins this week so I'm overly curious to watch the changes to my body LOL. I weighed Sunday when we began then Monday because of the weekly weigh-in here. Now I'm checking it every morning just to see. I think next week I will no longer be checking as much just because I am now convinced this IS working for me.

I think once a week is a good standard!

hi there.......... i am one of those people who checks my weight every morning. i like to see what things i ate, drank, exercise or lack there of effect my weight loss each morning. i also started on 7-7-03 and that was a monday so i officially use that as my weekly weight loss total. my boyfriend is counting calories so he weighs himself every morning too and we measure ourselves every sunday morning. i think that's important too. i don't obsess over it if i don't lose weight every single day but most of the time i can determine why i may not have by looking over my atkins food/drink/exercise journal from the previous day. since the diet is still new to me and i am constantly trying new foods and drinks out i think weighing myself everyday is good to narrow down what foods and drinks are going to consistantly work for me on this program. Good luck and I hope that helped somewhat.

Have A Disney Day!!!!!!:smooth:

dh was weighing in every Thursday but after about 4 mths he stopped weighing himself because it got discouraging. Now he goes by how his clothing feels.

I am going to weigh in on Monday and then weekly. I got the tape measure out and put it around my waist just to see if my original measurement from a couple of weeks ago was loose and it is, so hopefully the scale will show something.

So happy there are so many wonderful success stories on this board, it really helps to keep me motivated.

Thanks again,

Jeanne
Atkins 7/7

I began Atkins on Sunday, August 3rd - i have been weighing myself every day and have lost 9 lbs this week!! I was a bread, bagel lover and have not had any since i began- what a difference it has made! I m determined to have 15 lbs off before i start back to school in 3 weeks- will have more energy as i move around the classroom. Thanks for all the support. Caroline:D

How did you lose 9 lbs in one week???

I need all of the information that I can get!!!

TIA

*Flower*...remember that everyone's body handles weight loss differently. It depends on your body chemistry, how much you need to lose and lots of other things. I lost 13 pounds my first week and I could tell that some people were a bit "upset" by that but I later had weeks where I stayed the same or only lost a little bit. Some of the people that started the same time I did or even after I did have lost more than me. Just concentrate on YOU and do not worry about what everyone else does in the weight loss game.

Grlzmom

I am on Day 8 of Atkins and am also going on a Disney Cruise......YAHOO

I would be interested to know how anyone copes with Cruise food or WDW food and Atkins.........can it be done I wonder ????

Before I started Atkins one of the things I was looking forward to was all that lovely and abundant food on board......still am but what will happen if I blow it big time (I know me !!)
Dont want to be ill on holiday.

I guess I must be the odd one out! :D I only weigh myself once a month. I find that my weight fluctuates too much over the month to get a true reading of how many lbs I have lost. I feel that if I am doing what I need to be doing it doesn't matter how often I weigh myself. I have to admit though, that sometimes I am tempted to get on the scale, but I know that if I did and I had put on 5lbs (due to water retention) I would be totally depressed.

Ok, since I initially braved the scale, it has been becoming more obsessive. Should have stayed off it to begin with.

Now I find myself wanting to check in every morning, what's with that? I am becoming almost as addicted to the scale as I was to sugar. Definately cant be good for me :)

Highlandlass, sure you can stay on program on a Disney Cruise. If that's what you want to do and have a little willpower, you will be successful. There are lots of food choices. Beware of the tempting desserts though. I however, having been on one already, know that I will be probably off program by the end of the first day. I will just deal with it when I get home and get back on plan. I know, not the best idea but that's what I'm doing. Also, I have been steadily upping my carbs since induction so I am not going to be going from induction to indulgence (currently at about 50 carbs a day and still in ketosis and losing weight).

Now, how will I manage to live without the scale for my entire cruise?

mum4jenn-

Thanks for the wake up call......

I should be thankful that I'm now fitting into blouses that I'd bought 5 years ago- and 'grew' out of after being hired for a desk job.
Today I wore the blouse that I'd been interviewed in for my current job, and it fit!!! Of course I'd refused to dispose of them when I gained weight........ I just kept hoping that I'd get off of my keester and commit to improving my life.

So now I can add 6 silk tops to my 'office' wardrobe, and the silk slacks that I'd bought and had hemmed to the right length now need to be hemmed again....... because my behind is smaller, and the hems are almost dragging on the ground!!

I knew that I could count on you all to keep me straight.....
