Newbie needs help!

I am a total newbie to this process. (In other words, I appreciate your patience!) I currently have a package booked directly through Disney for 3 nights at the Poly with two 4-day parkhopper tickets for March 7-10. I can save almost $900 if I cancel this reservation and book through Orbitz. I can't find anything that lets me know if I can cancel my original reservation (room and tickets). Reading through these boards today, it seems I could book through Orbitz, get the confirmation number, and link the booking to my current reservation. I then call Disney and cancel. Is this possible??

I believe all tickets (bought alone or through a package) are non refundable and non transferable.

Check the cancellation terms of your package and make sure you aren't within your 45 day window on your Disney package. Then you would have to pay a cancellation fee. If you are more than 45 days out, then I think you can cancel the Disney reservation without a penalty, but check first.

Have you paid in full? Or are you still 45 days away (I think you are). Then I think you can cancel and get your money back. I had a reservation and park hoppers booked through Disney and saved $1000 booking on Orbitz, I had no issues canceling and getting my deposit back from Disney.

Yes you can cancel as long as you are more than 45 days out. Not sure about linking the reservation. We usually book through Disney.

Thanks, everyone. I verified that I can cancel without penalty, so have gone ahead and booked through Orbitz. I haven't cancelled my original reservation yet, as I want to read through more threads that talked about how to link the new reservation with the old. (I have dining reservations I would like to try to link.) Thanks again for the quick replies!

You won't lose you dinning reservation. I canceled and all my ADRs stayed right where they were
