I think, we are ready to take the plunge. We love the feel of disneyworld and can't wait to go back. We took a trip Aug 2002 and stayed at the Polynesian which was great except for the cramped quarters. We definitely like the Condo life with 2 kids ages 2 and 6 years old. So, I have a few questions about purchasing:

Do you think we should purchase without visiting an actual unit?

We are considering Saratoga Springs (spelling?). My dh likes the fact that it has a longer life of 50 years. Anyways, how many points should we purchase? Our dd is in 1st grade. I pull her out of school one week a year but we usually do two vacations a year so, one of them would have to be in the summer. Were on traditional schedule so, we'd mostly like go in June, July or August? Never spring break (dh is a CPA). Probably not Xmas time. But maybe thanksgiving since, dd school gives us a week off. We'll probably only visit every other year? I sure these are famous last words but I live in CA and figured that would work the best for us.

I know maintenance fees are per point. Does anyone know how much Saratoga Springs projected maintenance fees are?

Are there any other resorts we should consider? We like MK because of the girls ages. We liked eating dinner at Epcot. When we went in Aug 2002 we basically spent the days at MK or Animal Kingdom and then ate dinner in Epcot somewhere. We loved the monorail system but could live with the buses or taxi for that matter.

I am going to put in a call tomorrow to the rep.

Thanks,
Tina

Hi Tina!

We just became members on Sunday buying at Saratoga Springs. At this time, that's all that's available. The extra 10 years is definitely worth it. DVC is also offering some money off and financing deals through the end of the month that you could take advantage of. The minimum number of points you can buy is 150. If you want to get an idea of how many points your typical stay might take, the points sheets are available online. These might help you determine how many points to buy. You can always add on later as well.

Tina,

We come from California also. When I called DVC to set up an appointment, they told me they couldnt sell directly to a Californian. They said the reason, but I can't remember. I'm sure someone here can tell you why. Just wanted to give you a heads up.

Some states do not allow timeshares to be sold from outside the state. For those states, you would need to go to WDW to buy.

For the OP, check the number of points you would need for a 2 bedroom during the times of year you want to travel. That should be how you determin how many points to buy. If you find it is in excess of 400, I would suggest two seperate contracts so you can sell off some in the future as your needs change.

350 points is needed at BWV (pref), BCV and VWL is most of the summer months for a week stay in a 2-bedroom.

if you only stay 5 days (sun-thurs) then 200 points. (don't have the SSR)

if you buy from DVC then you must buy 150 points. If you buy from a resaler then it is what you can find and afford.

to buy at OKW, BWV, BCV and VWL - you must buy resale (at present) - I would think shortly there will be more sales at BWV - once the sales setup has been moved to SSR.

SSR contract expires in 2052 - all the other contracts end in 2042.

The additional BWV inventory has already been sold and will be available for use once the sales office moves to SSR.

SSR doesn't expire until January 31, 2054- a full 50 years away- but actually a few months less from the time it opens.

All other DVC resort contracts end on January 31, 2042- all of those except OKW also had less than 50 years from their opening. (OKW opened on October 1, 1991)

Thanks for all the information. I really appreciate it.

I'm taking a cruise next May. Can I do the transaction on the cruise? Also, we might go to Disneyland in LA and I saw a DVC desk there too. Do they do the sales at Disneyland?

Okay, I got the scoop from a DVC rep. We can buy DVC over the phone in California as long as the resort is registered. So, we can buy any of them except Saratoga Springs. California has not approved it yet. The rep offered me $84 per point for BWV or BCV. NO guarantee that I'd get it but it though. Just depends on how many others in front of me want it.

Oh, well. So, if we want to buy Saratoga Springs we have to visit. Hmmmm, maybe we can squeeze in a Disney vacation over the Xmas holidays.

Hi,

Is your heart set on SSR? Maybe you can buy resale. Even for BWV and BC, it might be cheaper. It depends on how much per point and closing cost. If you have to finance through Disney, I guess resale wont work though.
