I'm very interested in buying into DVC. Went to Disney last year and the look on my kids faces was priceless.

I've been in contact w Disney and they've offered me $95/pt at the Grand Californian. I have little desire to go all the way to California. I would be spending most of my points in Disney World not DisneyLand. They got me interested in the Grand Californian bc of the low annual dues.

I was interested in buying 160 pts. I've also been looking at the dvc resale websites and see that i could get them for around $70/pt.

One other good thing about buying thru Disney now is getting my 160 pts right now then in August getting another 160 pts BUT i am paying about $25 more per point which is another $4,000.

my concerns are buying thru Disney in California and it isn't even done yet...dues are low but will they sky rocket since there aren't that many villas?

any thoughts? any advice? help please

I would not buy at California if WDW is where you want to stay. No way. I'm surprised they would try to pressure you to buy there, assuming you expressed to your guide that you had no interest in going to California. Well, acutally I'm not surprised, but a guide looking after your best interest should not give you that advice, in my opinion. While it is likely you can book somewhere at WDW at 7 months, there is no guarantee.

Supposedly you can buy OKW direct from WDW for $90 per point - it was $100 or so but people here have been saying they bought for $90 recently. Then there is resale, which does take 6-8 wks before you can book with the points. There are contracts out there with two years of points. Even if you decide you want to buy from Disney and you don't care for OKW, to me it would be worth the money to pay more per point to buy somewhere at WDW.

Buy at WDW and not in California. If you really do not have a preference for which DVC resort you stay at in WDW, then go resale and consider SSR. Dues are low and so is the buy in price (around the high 60's). It expires in 2054, so is one of the longer contracts out there.

You can always try for the other resorts 7 months out. And, some of the contracts out there do come with 2009 points. If you keep your eye out, you can probably find the Aug UY you are looking for.

At least owning at one of the WDW resorts allows you to book something on property at the 11 month window. If what you want at 7 months doesn't come through, at least you have something.

With VGC, you must wait to 7 months out to book at WDW. If you have trouble, you would be stuck.

The Timeshare store is great to dea with. We bought BCV from them in 2008, then added on at BLT last year... we're now in the process of adding on at SSR through the Timeshare Store.

I agree with the above and I do know what you are talking about because we were talked into VGC when we bought 160 at BLT and wanted at least 300 points total but did not want to spend the cost for BLT. We were told lower price per point and low maintance fees. We did not know any better and went a head with it. Since Feb and a lot of research I found (and bought) a 160 point SSR contract with all 2009 points banked for a 4000.00 savings over dvc. We signed and deposited 3/1 ROFR was waived 3/23 closed yesterday 4/1 and I expect the points will be in my account by mid next week.

I wish we had researched more and we may end up selling GCV down the road but for right now we are looking at those points as our extra vacation points and use them at whatever resort we can get at 7 month window until we have stayed at all the resorts! (including GCV!)

Don't buy VGC if you don't ever plan to stay there. DL is a wonderful resort, but if transportation there is a problem or you just can't get to California, buy at WDW. Otherwise, you have traded out the home resort advantage for a few bucks per point.

You might be able to find a WDW resort on a reseller's site that has banked points.
