How long is arriving giving themselves to arrive and check in at Newark Airport. We are leaving on July 11th on the 7:10am Delta Express flight to Orlando....any thoughts?

I was planning on being there by 5:45am? Is this enough or too much?

thanks so all!!!!

Single Digit Countdown is on!!!!!!:jester: :jester: :jester:

I flew through the Newark airport on the way back from an overseas trip last November. I spent the night in Newark and took the hotel shuttle to the airport in the morning. It was terribly busy on a Thursday morning and I almost missed my flight. If you are checking luggage, I would say 5:45am at the very latest.

The good news is you are not flying Continental, which can have terribly long lines because this is their hub airport. The other good news is EWR has self service kiosks which can speed up the process considerably. You can cut your ticket counter wait in half by using these machines. According to the Delta website you should allow 25 minutes for check in and 45 minutes for security. I personally think that is too much time to allow for check in but I think getting there at 5:45AM is fine if you plan on using the self service kiosk.

Delta flies out of the B terminals at EWR which is tiny compared to the rest of the airport. There just aren't that many gates which is good when trying to get through security.

If you have never used the kiosk you can get a lesson here

You can do everything here that you need including:
If you have purchased a Delta e>ticket for a domestic flight, our self-service kiosk gives you a quick alternative to lines at the airport.
  • Check in and get your boarding passes for originating and connecting flights.
  • Check your baggage.
  • Change your flight or standby for an earlier flight.
  • Select or change your seat assignments.
  • Provide for multiparty check-in.
  • Request a receipt for your e>ticket.
  • Find out about possible flight delays or cancellations.
  • Review your itinerary and seat assignment.
  • Medallion® members may request to standby to use 500-Mile Upgrades points.

We just flew Delta Express from EWR to MCO last week. We arrived at 12:20pm for a 2:00pm flight. No problem at all! Security took all of 5 minutes. We also did the online check in from home and printed out our boarding passes, then checked the bags at the curbside. Breezed through and sat waiting for the plane!!

How and when do you do the at home check in? I have the electronic tickets and we are all new sky miles members...does this save time? Do you still need to check your bags and in at the gate? Thanks!

Since you need to check luggage just use the kiosks in the lobby I find the kiosks to be just as quick. Official Delta policy says that if you are checking luggage online check in from home is not available to you.

I can only speak from recent experience(last week) we did the online check and then checked our bags at curbside check in . The guy at curbside even commented on how this was the quickest way to go.He took my online boarding passes and within seconds handed us the normal boarding pass "because there easier to fit in the envelope". You can online check in up to 8 hours before your flight.
We did the kiosk check in at MCO(no printer with us!) and it was OK but for some reason my sons ticket was separate from DH and mine so I had to enter his skymiles number separately to get the boarding pass. Still alot quicker then standing in line.

Alot of things in practice are different than official policy I just wanted the original poster to be aware of the official word from Delta. The other thing since this is a early morning flight sometime curb side check-in isn't available very early in the AM. lsyorke you commented that your flight was in the afternoon. Also the original poster is staying at an airport hotel and may not be able to print boarding passes from the hotel.

We didn't use the long term parking. Its gotten too expensive! We used a limo service which was great! (we've used other services in the past who were horrible!) If your in Central or north jersey I'd be happy to give you their number if you PM me. I use to use the monorail lots which were very convenient but they have double in price. Alot of Dis members use Avistar but I hate to do the bus thing.
