New York New York

We have also stayed at the Marriot Courtyard Times Square South. It was clean, friendly staff, and wonderful location.

I ALWAYS recommend Virgil's BBQ. Great place to eat!!!!!!:)

HIGHLY recommend the Eastgate Tower. I stayed there for a week in November and it was fantastic - and a real bargain. Very clean and extremely spacious for any hotel, but especially one in NYC. It is at 222 East 39th St. (near 39th & 3rd). :thumbsup2

It would appear that there are some reasonably priced hotels in NYC, despite the howling from the hyperventilating media!!!!!!

We stayed at the Pennsylvania Hotel, right across the street from Madison Square Gardens, Macy's and a few blocks south of Times Square. Awesome location, big hotel, reasonably priced rooms. You can get a room with two double beds for $219 before any discounts.

Since you're going with kids, (or even if you aren't) I gotta recommend this place: http://www.ilovepeanutbutter.com/index.cfm

A word of caution on the Hotel Pennsylvania. You must ask for a newly renovated room. Please read the reviews on trip advisor, not good. They refer to it as the "hotel pig". You will find the best deals through www.travelzoo.com for lots of summer specials. That one bedroom suite through the Affinia Manhattan is a great deal. The hotel is very highly regarded by others traveling with families on trip advisor. I can recommend a nearby Italian restaurant, Sette, that offers a long lunch menu from 12-7, 3 courses starting at $15.00...very good food.
PS...others to avoid are Hotel Carter and the Milford Plaza.

This post is awesome!! Me and DH are taking DS13 on a trip to NYC hopefully early next year as he has been wanting to go so bad, so we decided to take him.. I have added a few more sights to my list now..:goodvibes

My son is a huge baseball nut and loves the Yankees so we are definitely going to see a baseball game at the Yankee Stadium but I found in a book about a place called National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown and just wondered if anyone has gone and is it worth it? it sounds awesome in the book I came across it in and also how far off the beaten path is this place?? Im looking at staying at Marriott Courtyard Times Square South..

Baseball Hall of fame is a wonderful museum. I'm not even a baseball fan and I really enjoy going there. Cooperstown is a nice place, lots of little stores to browse in.

I would also highly recommend the Affinia Manhattan! I have stayed at other Affinia hotels before, and tried this one this past Christmas. I absolutely loved the location! It is about a 15 minute walk from Times Square, and not too far from a Subway station. Coming in from New Jersey with luggage was nice, since Penn Station/Madison Square Garden is literally right there and no cab was needed to get to the hotel. My favorite color just happens to be pink, so the fact that the lobby is done in pinks was also a plus for me!

Cooperstown is apporx 4-5 hours from the heart of NYC. Don't know if you are planning on taking a car or train (not sure what trian goes there) I can tell you this it is the perfect place for baseball nuts. Many from my neck of the woods (Long Island) go there for vacations & it takes them about 6 hours. Get your Yankee tix in advance.

After checking hotels that were mentioned above and dates, prices, etc. I booked 4 nights at the AFFINIA ...1 bd rm suite for $1091.00....mid July...this will be for DH, DS 38, and Gr-Kids 10&11....I called the hotel directly and they gave me the internet rate that Travelzoo was offering....I will let you know how this works out . Amtrak, from Penn Station to Philly and and cab over the river to Camden . N.J. to do an encampment (overnight) on the battleship...USS New Jersey. .which will THRILL one of the grandsons beyond words. .the other will have been THRILLED to see the Statue of Liberty.....again THANKS...
