New York? maybe...

Aussietravellers- Have you found the Hojo site that has a list of 2012 dates for the entertainment rate. ;)

Ms.Shuttergirl I am a bit obsessive about checking dates and watching prices (with airfares and accommodation). I'm watching HoJo's daily at the moment, watching out for the Entertainment rate so I can jump on it if it comes up for my dates. Before I booked I kept checking their website and the most I could get was 15% (either for Dis discount, stay 2 or 3 and get 15% off etc), then one day a stay 5 get 20% off came up so I jumped on it, now I want the 50% off ent rate (I'm not really greedy :rotfl2:). So I do check often and I check direct and also on a variety of websites.

I'm now starting on Vegas :rotfl:

Expedia always send an email when they have a 24hr, 48hr or 72hr sale. So that particular time I got the email. Checked prices everywhere and Expedia was well below the others (including direct with Doubletree) for the same room. So I jumped on it. I had room requests that I emailed Expedia about and they added to the booking. I saved hundred's of $'s.

Well that's good to know. Perhaps I need to become more obsessive :rotfl:. If I remember rightly though, if you book through Expedia you have to pay straight away which would then mean you couldn't take advantage of any further deals or change your accom???

Shuttergirl - I'm constantly checking TripAdviser and Expedia...even when I haven't got a trip planned. :lmao:

Hahaha, you crazy lady PIO. I clearly need to get my Tripadvisor/Expedia checking crazy on - what I am I doing here talking to you guys. I should on Tripadvisor/Expedia :rotfl2:.

We used expedia for our stay last year - it was a combined booking 4 nights at the doubletree - breakfast inc -(4 people) and return airfare from Orlando for 5 people. $3200 - I thought that was pretty good rate, since apparently September / October is high season.

That sounds like a good deal, wowser.

Just having a look, and the way I read the luggage (on Delta) is that you have to pay for anything checked
How do they expect people to travel with no luggage??

I wonder if they have changed their policies since 2010? We didn't have to pay for luggage and we travelled internationally and internally with them but as I say, they may have changed their rules since then.

I think it was last year $25 a bag unless it's part of a multi city international fare type of thing...

Still have part of the voucher left but I bet I can't use it...
(Why won't they let you pay for a bag when you buy your ticket LOL)

Thank you :goodvibes Yes I have, that's what I keep checking. Unfortunately they have not added any dates at all in December (and I've been checking for months :rotfl: ). So maybe it's going to be busy this December and they don't think they will need the rate to help fill the hotel :confused3 Keeping my fingers crossed though :wizard:

Yes you do have to pay straight away. But if you have been watching prices and know for sure you are staying there and that it's a good deal then paying before is ok. I only did ours about a month or so out, so I knew it was as good as it was going to get. That's how being an price watching stalker helps :rotfl:

That's a con really isn't it! But I wonder if with the size of the cabin baggage allowance that they seem to have in the USA, many people don't need it. Some of the cabin baggage I see them lug on to the plane are as big as a full sized suitcase

Becpee, not sure of your itinerary. When we went to New York, it was as a side trip from Orlando, we were returning there 4 days later, I arranged for the Town Car people to hold most of our luggage until we returned 4 days later. I paid $50 - "for the extra time taken to go via the office"

But as we were a family of five we were travelling with 10 bags - would have cost us $250 each way to take them.

We managed with just carryons, the smaller roll suitcases are allowed as carryon - we managed with 3 between us for 4 nights - which also made it easier to get a cab!!

This was probably all on the one international ticket. You might have to be prepared for luggage fees on your upcoming trip. ;)

In hindsight, it might have been worth checking 1 bag, we had to throw out deoderant, shampoo, toothpaste, and I was particularly worried about some stuff I bought at clinique on the return trip. (shh, they never found it - it was still sealed)

Well, our trip just got big-ger :thumbsup2
Not longer, just an extra stop LOL

We've decided that we might head to New York, we have enough credit (Thanks Delta :thumbsup2) to get there and back, so it's a very real possibility.
Just pricing out hotels and we'll see if it's doable.
Any rec's for hotels, areas, things to do, it'll probably just about 3 days or so, just enough for a taste and the desire to go back :thumbsup2

so exciting!!! New York is my favourite city.

Last March I stayed at this hotel http://www.room-matehotels.com/eng/nuevayorkhotel/gracehotel/gracehotel.php withmy niece. I highly recommend them for a fabulous central location (but quiet) great housekeeping and customer service at a great price. I had a look and prices seem to have risen since we travelled. We booked through Hotel Club (to get velocity points) it was at the same price as elsewhere.

Checked luggage on delta:

You may check up to two bags that meet our size & weight restrictions at no extra charge .....

2 bags up to 23 kg each......god I love delta
