My friend and her daughter will be flying into LaGuardia for the weekend the end of January. They're planning on staying at Embassy Suites (102 North End Avenue).

Two questions:

Can anybody comment on the hotel? She got a rate of $139 which sounded pretty good to me (but I have no experience with NYC hotels).

What's the best way to get there from the airport? Taxi or using a towncar service (like many do in Orlando)? Any recommendations?

Thanks! :goodvibes

you're going to be downtown (near the world trade center site). During the weekends, the area is going to be pretty calm and quiet, its more a mon-fri neighborhood b/c of wall street and such. 139 is a great rate, and it looks like a really nice hotel.

you'll have your pick of cabs when you exit LGA. It might cost you a bit though . I'm thinking its at least 1/2 from LGA to downown manhattan depending on time of day

I'm sorry, sometimes I'm a little dense. What is 1/2? :goodvibes

That is a good price. We just get in the taxi line at LaGuardia. We stay in the Time Square area, it's $30 or $40 for the ride, can't remember which it is. Your friends will be a bit more. I think a Town car is twice the amt.

After a little bit of research, I'm guessing that 1/2 refers to a subway route, maybe?

Thanks! I'll tell them that it sounds like a taxi is the way to go. :thumbsup2

ha. no i meant 1/2 hour. sorry. i accidentally erased it.
:)

subway, while convenient and cheap, would be a pain from queens. I'd definitely take a cab.

Particularly since they would have no idea what they were doing on a subway! :rotfl2: I don't even want to imagine how fast that could go downhill as they tried to maneuver their way with luggage without any experience getting around... :rolleyes1

The cab sounds like the way to go! :thumbsup2
