New Year's Week Crowds?

My DH, DD8 (turning 9 on Jan. 2) and I will be at WDW from Jan 1-6 (staying at BWV for first time!). Last year, we went the second week in Jan. and the crowds were pretty light, and we loved it! This year, we wanted to be there for DD's actual birthday (and the next week wouldn't work in the schedule). So...how are the crowds? I've read that 1/1 and 1/2 might be crazy, and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this.

Hi,

What you have heard is correct...the 1st and 2nd will be very crowded. But crowds will fall off dramatically starting on the 3rd and it will be quite empty for the second half of your trip!

Unfortunately, my dd will want to go to the MK on her b-day (Jan. 2), and I'm sure the crowds will be particularly heavy there. Ahh, well. I guess we'll just have to wait in some lines!

As January 2 is a Monday and I would think most schools go back Tuesday or Wednesday I would think the parks would start to clear out. I think it depends on what day of the week Christmas and New Years land on.

I have also read that is you get to the parks very early on Jan 1, it will be quiet for a few hours since so many people were celebrating NYE's the night before and still asleep at park opening.
I have been advised that EPCOT may be very quiet for the morning on Jan 1 so we will be going there for opening and hope for the best.

We were at Epcot on 1st January 2004 - it was practically empty, especially compared with the week before Christmas and the week between Christmas and New Year's!

We found MGM to be much the same - at least until 3pm - on January 2nd.

Sadly, we left Orlando on the 3rd, so we can't comment on the crowds later in the week.
