I was just wondering what kind of activities or parties are there at WDW during new years eve. Thinking of going down for that time if we can get anything that is. :)

Thanks for any suggestions!

We spent New Years Eve in the MK 3 years ago and the whole park was like 1 big party, they had a DJ that was in front of the castle and was broadcasted thru the whole park. We had the whole line for Big Thunder Railroad ding the chicken dance.
I am sure you can find something you would like, finding a place to stay now might be the problem, good luck on that. It is a great time to be there as long as you can deal with very large crowds.

2 Years ago we were in Epcot and we're doing it again this year with the DGC's family. They have the NYE fireworks in the MK also on December 30, so we saw those that day and on NYE we stayed in Epcot, and it was great, but yes, very very crowded. The walk back to the Boardwalk was so easy. There was a party going on right there on the Village Green, so you didn't have to go into a park to enjoy the fun!

Our favorite NYE park is Epcot. I hope you aren't thinking of geting a DVC room for this upcoming NYE though. NYE is the single earliest booked night in all of the DVC year, and there has been nothing of any size unit for some time already. Your only hope would be to waitlist behind the hundreds of others doing the same thing.

We went into Hollywood Studios at 9pm and had a great time NYE 2 years ago. There was a DJ and dancing in the streets. Fireworks went off at midnight. Went to see the Osborne Lights which were great and one of the reasons we went there. Stayed till 2 and took boat back to BCV and got on the first boat that came.

Are you think this NYE? I doubt there will be anything for NYE at any DVC. We have been there for xmas week for the last 5 years and booked at 11 months. Anything that includes NYE is extremely doubtful at this point. We decide last minute last year to move to Dolphin just for NYE from OKW (it was our last night there) and were able to get a room on starwood points at 1 month out...FYI

We are thinking about a trip next year for January 2012 and arriving for NYE 2011. We were thinking about booking 11 months out for SSR and then moving over to OKW on Jan 1 or 2 (or just staying at SSR). We prefer OKW because of the space, but we have a resale contract from SSR.

My question concerns the Swan/ Dolphin. I will have premium Starwood status because I travel a lot, so that gives free upgrades on rooms, etc. at Starwood properties. Do you think that there would be availability on Dec 31st. Would we need to arrive on Dec. 30th in order to get to the parks in time to enjoy the festivities? How much of a pain is it to change from Swan/ Dolphin to OKW or SSR? The other drawback is that we've heard the magical express doesn't work if your initial stay is at the Swan/ Dolphin.

We have just purchased a resale DVC contract, so we are new to the DVC system, and we appreciate your advice/ help.

Thanks!

You are right, the ME service does not go to the S/D. You could get it for the return to the airport if you leave from one of the DVC properties, but it's not going to take you to the S/D from the airport.

Dont give up though - I waitlisted about two months ago for a one bedroom at BCV for 12/31-1/4 and never thought it would come through and it did!! So you never know- It will be Epcot/Beach club New Years Eve for us:cool1:

DH and I did NYE at EPCOT a couple of years ago. It was alot of fun but WARNING!! This is the busiest day of the year. Don't expect to ride all of your favorite rides as you will be in line forever. The crowds are crazy so if you can't hang with that then don't go, and plan on an extremely long day. The parks usually hit capacity by 10 and then they don't let in additional people. Also it is not really possible to leave because you might not get back in.

That being said, this was the trip we got DVC. We did the tour to get the special fast passes. These allowed DH to ride TT and RRC that trip repeatedly even though the crowds were so bad.

I am not a crowd person and I can't hang with the long hour all day at the park stuff. I a still glad we did it and I had a great experience... once. I wouldn't do it again but DH would every year given half a chance!

We went to Epcot a few years ago & were told by just about everyone including many CMs that we HAD to get to Epcot early because they close due to capacity & you might not get in even as a resort guest. So we went early (we are not morning people) and we endured the crowds all day long, and as a PP mentioned you really can't get on any rides, so by 8pm we were tired, cranky & bored so we left & watched a lot of people just arriving.

So last year I made dinner reservations at Nine Dragons, we hung around the resort, took an afternoon nap & went to Epcot at about 6pm with no problem whatsoever. A LOT of people were coming & going. We slowly strolled to dinner, had a nice leisurely dinner, walked around & watched some of the stage shows set up, grabbed a free hat & horn, a glass of champagne and surprisingly found a great place to watch the midnight Illuminations (people camp out around the lagoon all day to hold their spots). After Illuminations the park was open an extra hour & we even got to ride a couple of rides with absolutely no wait & I grabbed a margarita for the walk to the bus. Perfect NYE! :thumbsup2

I used all spg points for that night NYE(10,000) and had no problems. We had no problem switching from OKW, left the resort around 9am checked in at dolphin(parked the car and went to DHS by boat by 9:30am). They called us at 12:15 during Car stunt show to say room was ready. Boardwalk area is great for NYE we were back in our room after the midnite fireworks before most folks hit the trams. We watched the fireworks from the boardwalk area and saw both Epcot and DHS with great viewing from around the Boardwalk, then back to our room.
