new years eve announcment

Did anyone else see the teaser that Disney posted on Facebook? I can't c/p on my phone, but it said something about leaping for joy. So I am guessing that the big news will just be that MK will be open 24 hrs on leap day. Blah!

EDITOR’S NOTE 12/30: The big surprise to be announced on Dick Clark's New Years Eve show is the gimmicky 24 hour bi-coastal party on Leap Year Day this Feb in the parks, plus more WDW discounts and a continuation of the Memories campaign. Meanwhile, Disneyland is managing massive crowds this week with daily phased closures and forcing the overflow into DCA with complimentary parkhopper upgrades. Between Christmas and New Years Days, Disneyland Resort is heading to a park attendance tally near 750,000 visitors, a new record. - Al Lutz

Not terribly exciting. I'm definitely hoping for discounts though!!!

I read a similar thing on the Stitch Kingdom blog. Definitely the 24 hours on the leap day thing, plus other "promos" throughout the year.

From everything I've seen and read, it seems like the 24hr opening and Extra Day promotion are the best bets. The promo of being open for 24hrs seems a little gimmicky to me but would be a good way to promote the bigger "Extra Day" promotion. Think about it: The 24hr thing would only increase attendance for a day, weekend or week while an Extra Day promo could increase attendance all year. Not to mention its only 2 months to 2/29.

If it turns out that the promo is an extra day's attendance, dining, and hotel how would you go about claiming the extra day if you already booked?

If it's just an extra day, (ie.buy4 get 1 free), the current spring discount is a much better deal for our trip in April. So much hype.....I hope it is more than the current speculation.

Same for us. We saved around $700 with the current spring promo, so the extra day wouldn't do much for us on a 12 day :rolleyes:stay...

I can see Disney wanting to broaden their customer base with the huge opportunity from NYE.

The promotion sure doesn't do anything for me though! -_-

It's not a grest promotion for most people. Maybe Disney is trying to increase sales for the end of February and first of March. If that's the case, maybe there's be better promotions ahead. 4 and 3, free dining, etc. Everyone has a dream :cloud9:

January and February are the only months, I believe, that are still Value. There's got to be a reason for that; Disney clearly wants to increase occupancy.

Naw, the worst of the humid weather combined with hurricane season still rates as value - most of August and part of September.
