Can't believe it has been 13 years since our first trip to WDW! We came in on 12/30/99, and got up and out early on 12/31 to Magic Kingdom! I wanted my kids to be somewhere special for the dawn of 2000 - what's better than Magic Kingdom?????

Disney housekeeping gave all rooms a few bottles of water and a flashlight - in case the whole Y2K thing actually happened and there was no power. We also had the info for buying bus tickets home in case the airplanes couldn't fly! Sooooooo funny now when I think back on it all!

Happy New Year to everyone - and enjoy your time at WDW!

YES!!!!! It was a blast, but for a first time trip I guess it would make you immune to WDW crowds forever! LOL

We stayed at the Beach Club 12/26 - 1/2 and chose Epcot on 12/31/1999. I remember the yellow flashlights too! Wall-to-wall crowds around the big day but everyone was in high spirits and most people we met were WDW veterans who made thier resort reservations many years ahead. We reserved our room eight years in advance and were on a waiting list, knowing that the final prices would be high (don't look so bad compared to current prices though).

We booked it because it was an "only" and we would always remember being in our favorite place to begin the new century.

I was just thinking of how we were at Disney on New Years day 2 years ago. Weren't at WDW on NYE 1999, but I definitely remember where I was! Y2K ~ crazy!

we weren't at Disney for the New Year but we did have a newborn :rotfl:

DD was born 12/1/99 and didn't sleep well for the first 6 weeks so I was awake for the ball drop that year (haven't been since).

We were at Disney for a week over the Millennium celebration. On NYE, we went to a special performance package of La Nouba at DTD. I think it ended about 11 pm and was followed by a dessert buffet behind the theater by the lake where all the cast members came out and mingled with the guests. At midnight, there were incredible fireworks right over our heads from Pleasure Island.

We have wonderful memories and great pictures of our then 9 year o.ld (now 22) in a Mickey-ear top hat with lots of La Nouba performers. It was really special without braving the overwhelming crowds at the parks.

That sounds very cool!

I booked 6 years in advance, and the funny part was that I was pregnant at the time. The CM on the phone asked me who was in my party for the reservation, and I said 2 adults and 2 kids - 1 girl and I don't know what the other one is. She laughed hysterically for about 5 minutes! We were booked at All Star Sports - which was in the process of being built at that time.

So much fun! And it of course started a love affair that is still going strong . . . me and Mickey (don't tell DH!).

Dh and I were there!!!!! I wouldn't want to be anywhere else!!!

it was a last minute trip for us since we had just gotten married 5 months prior in Walt Disney World.

We were at Pleasure Island and saw Styx, the B-52's and Hootie & the Blowfish!

What a great memory. :)

We stayed at Boardwalk Villas and I don't remember getting water and a flashlight. Maybe they didn't give them to DVCers! I remember we had reservations at Rose and Crown for 10:45 and stayed until after the fireworks. My mom, step-father & my sister's family stayed at Port Orleans Riverside and they ALL came down with the stomach flu and dragged themselves out of bed for 12/31/99 and barely made it to midnight. We were there with our 4-month old DD and kept a pretty wide berth.

We had that bug, too, but it didn't surface for a few days. My brother had his own room at ASSp, and did get a fever. He slept through the day and when he woke up, he looked out his window and saw a pyramid of girls looking at him. He figured he was hallucinating, but it was the cheerleading competition that weekend, and the cheerleaders were practicing on the football "field" at ASSp! Too funny! We still tease him about that!

I remember it. I was at my brand new parents-in-law's house (got married Aug 1999) in their basement with guns, ammo, water, food, generator, etc etc etc.

They even had gold to buy things with (since money would no longer be accepted after Y2K) and they also had a lot of chocolate bars because they were convinced chocolate would be worth a ton as people needed a sugar fix.

If you're wondering who buys into these crazy conspiracies....just look at my in laws!

They're also convinced 9/11 was a George W Bush planned attack to create an excuse to invade Iraq. Bush wanted to invade Iraq to get revenge for his dad. They believe Obama was born in Kenya, had 3 Social Security numbers, and was originally named "Barry Soetero". And don't get my father-in-law started on the JFK conspiracies!!!

Crazy stuff...

Edit: I was forced to be in their basement. I didn't believe all the Y2K stuff. My wife was scared because her parents freaked her out about it and her opinion was "what's the worst that happens if we go down to the basement and the world continues as normal? Better safe than sorry".

Worst new year's ever.

Wow. They sound...delightful :scared1:

I never bought into all the Y2K hype....it was all so silly

Had the several years of IT corrections made around the world, at great expense, time and effort, not been done, it could very well have been a very, very different outcome. Thankfully, we will never know what might have been.

Thats one of the few years we missed around that time... That's what I got for working for a major computer manufacturer :rotfl2: The year before, it was colder at WDW on NYE than it was back in Chicago...:scared1:

I was there. My first trip to the World as an adult. We spend the day ay MK.
