NY falls on a Sat. in 2005 and we're looking to fly out of a small regional airport (AVP) to MCO before 10 am on that day. Is NY a light, regular or heavy travel day? I figure most holiday visitors will be at their destinations and hungover by then and returning visitors will fly on Sun. to be back at the office Mon. Sat. should be slow with tickets not in great demand. Am I calculating correctly or fooling myself? Should I jump on the best rate I can get ASAP or wait as I usually do until about 3 months out? Thanks for any advice offered.

We're flying home from Fort Myers on New Year's Day and the rates are astronomical!!!! I've been waiting since May for them to drop, but they haven't budged.

DW and I flew to MCO on 1/1/2002 and it was great! Granted, it was only a few months after "9/11" so people may have still been a bit leary of flying. Arriving at MCO was no problem, as most people were leaving MCO and not arriving.

Good luck!

Well, we wanted to fly home from Orlando either Jan 1 or 2, but Southwest has NO discounted fares available at all - only full-price. Judging from this, I'd say they expect those 2 days to be pretty heavy travel days. We decided to drive instead. :)

If you see any sort of reasonably priced airfare right now, I'd recommend booking it.
