Hi,

I have been a lurker on this board for over a year... possibly 2 since our first family trip to DLP. I should therefore thank those who do post as I have used the hints and tips to get the most out of our time there (been 3 times so far)

Last year due to my wife's working on the 31st Dec we arrived on the 1st Jan and it was much like every other day at DLP, but we heard so much about the fireworks and extended opening time (1am?) that we booked up this year and are arriving early on the 31st

Can anyone tell me or point me to a website that provides details of what different happens for new year and any tips on what to see/where to be

Thanks
Stuart

Hi Stuart, welcome to the DIS! :welcome: Glad you decided to start posting. :goodvibes

DLRP Magic is the site most of us use for info. I've never been for New Year's Eve myself but if you look ar the Trip Reports at the top of the page there are some in there.

You can book a special dinner, seehere, and there will be fireworks at midnight.

Hey - it's great for New Year - I've been twice before and going again this year. The first thing to note is how busy it will be - as long as you know this you can be prepared in advance. It's more about soaking up atmosphere than walking onto rides.

Main Street will be crowded from about 9/10pm onwards - don't focus too much on where to be - just have fun!

See you there. :cool1:

Thanks for answering but now I have numerous questions for you....

Is the normal parades and lighting of the castle on at the regular times?

What happens in the Main Street? Is it just people getting ready for the fireworks, which I assume do not happen until midnight?

Does anything else special happen?

See you there, I'll be the one in the black/grey stripey woolen hat ;)

Thanks
Jazz

I've been three times at New Year (wish i was going again, but i'm saving up for my wedding in Florida - i kind of feel like i'm cheating on DLRP, as that is my first love!!) - it's a wonderful place to see in the new year.

For your questions:

1) I think it's pretty much the same time for the parades - if not a bit later with the park being open late.

2) Yes it's just people staking out Main Street, for a good place to watch the fireworks. If you're wanting some of the champagne, i recommend getting it a good while before midnight, as the queues can be very long, especially as there's always the usual DLRP lack of respect for them.
We got ours last time (last NYE) at about 11pm, then sat and waited by Dapper Dans, occasionally nipping into the shops to warm up - then just shuffled into the centre of Main Street for the midnight countdown.
My only major dislike about the waiting for midnight, is that the PA/sound system just plays pop/dance songs leading up to it - i'd much rather it were Disney style songs, but maybe that's just me.

3) As for anything special - just being there is pretty special, but i don't think there's anything extra on at the parks, tho some hotels have special dinners/shows on, tho these are fairly expensive, and i'd much rather be in the park.

Have a great time, i'm sure you will :goodvibes

Hi

Sorry for not replying sooner.

Luke is correct - if you want champagne...get it early!

The parade is likely to be slightly later in the day than normal as well.

Not long to go!:santa:

I cant believe its sooooo soon, i've been excited about going for NYE since aug but the last few weeks i havent even had time to think about it, I feel like i should be organising or something!:confused3

Am i right in thinking that when the fireworks are on they shut off the lands and just main street& central plaza it open? i was thinking i may be a good idea to try and get a spot on the edge of the central plaza near one of the entrances to one of the lands?

I would like this answered to if anyone knows???? I know that the park stays open untill 1am...but does this include the rides?????? or do they stop operating a bit earlier on???

thanks

shell xx

Nothing is shut down at midnight except any areas which might require to be cleared as normal for fireworks (the back of the Castle and hence Snow White and Pinocchio might close briefly). Operations will be run towards closing but all major rides will run until 1am. I remember a few years ago going against the stream of people leaving the park via Frontierland into Main Street....crush central!!

Can't wait for all the fun.

Thanks - i dont know why i thought they shut off all the lands:) . My internet has been down to a week :confused3 and only just suddenly started working again- so i'm glad i've been able to read the boards b4 i go.

2days i'm sooo excited- just started packing and then we're traveling down to kent tomoz to stay b4 getting to eurostar on sun !!!!!!!! :goodvibes

Happy new year to you all!!!! enjoy your trips!!!:cheer2:
