NEW Wilderness Lodge FAQ!!

:p As Flag Family we walked through the concierge level and when I saw the AM spread of food I wished we had taked that upgrade! We had breakfast every morning downstairs - same type of stuff. I didn't because I didn't like the idea of not seeing over the wall. Not that we spent a lot of time on the porch - but it was nice to sit and look at the pool, lake, waterfall.
:p

This is a good thread. Funny that with WL being my fave, I have not really posted on this thread before now!

I'm glad to hear those posts about concierge. We are (hopefully) going at the end of March, and I was considering going for concierge if I thought it was really going to be worth it ... just to make the trip extra special. I got a really good rate for a woods view room (hoping for a MK view like the first time we went), but was considering the upgrade. I won't now until the service improves. I'm using the money on other special things such as a MK fireworks cruise and perhaps some other watersports etc that I wouldn't normally do.

Also, I was wondering out of curiosity if you had to be American to be the flag family. Does it count that my uncle, aunt and cousins are all Americans?!LOL If I did it (and was lucky enough) would I feel awkward that I didn't know what the 'protocol'was??

Heavens no...........Anyone can be a flag family. They raise several flags, as a matter of fact. You raise the American flag, the Florida state flag, the Disney flag, I believe, and a Wilderness Lodge flag. All you do is pull the rope and salute. You do recite the pledge of Allegiance, however. It is a wonderful experience. We just did this in December.

....Lou-Ann is correct. Besides, the view is BREATHTAKING!!!! Just remember, you can only request to be a "Flag Family" at check-in, so do so immediately!!! Good luck!:D

Leaving fo rthe World on the 17th!:bounce:

Cant wait - Honeymooning :)

Any last minute advice? I will fax a basic room request next week.

Does anyone know what the chances of getting a concierge upgrade at check-in might be since it is Presidents Day??

Probably slim but worth a try! Then again, it is your honeymoon. Disney has a way of making your visit magical!

...note that it is your HM when sending your fax!!! BTW: congrats on the nuptuals (sending pixie dust your way ~*^~*^~*^~*!)

(PS - if weather permits, don't forget a visit (for 2!) to the hot tub around midnite ;) )

We are arriving in Disney on 2/17. When should I fax room request? Is Thursday okay? Any special hints for me??:p

...send a fax first thing Friday morning. Usually 3 days prior to arrival is good "rule-of-thumb", and Fridays are usually when the computers/reservations/requests are updated. Any specific requests that you have in mind??

kimar - We don't want to be too picky, but a king sized bed in a quieter area, non smoking, would be ideal. I am hoping to upgrade to concierge when we check in, but because of the holiday, it may not be a possibility.

....a king-sized bed is not such an out-of-the-ordinary request, and you would probably be better off with a "woods view". However, all the rooms seem to be well insulated, and you don't generally hear noise from the other guests, with, perhaps, the exception of the lobby rooms. I would tactfully explain these requests in the fax, and, upon arrival, casually mention them again. Who knows? You may be lucky enough to get concierge (but don't get your hopes up!!), although it is more feasible that they may send up a small basket of fruit, balloons, or some other nicety.....good luck!

Thanks Kimmar :)

We certainly aren't expecting any freebies so anything they offer will be appreciated. I will just be happy to escape the war drums of the DC area for a week or so. The positioned missile launchers are unnerving to say the least!

...as someone who experienced 9/11 (15 min from NYC) I can relate......(my hubby watched [as he and his brother were doing a re-roof] the towers fall from the roof where he was working:( )

Kimmar - I know we can all remember where we were and what we were doing that day. I was driving by the Pentagon...

But, this is a happy occasion! :)

Thanks so much for all your help!!!

Well....we are very excited at our house. We are going to wdw in Aug. and were booked at CBR for the week. Well, we just got some very unexpected monies and just where do you all think I want to spend it?? Yep, WDW. So. We would love to stay at WL for the week. I know that transportation can be a problem. Normally we would just take a chill pill and live with it. But, since it is going to be very hot/humid, we will be traveling back and forth from the parks to the resort for mid-day resting/pool and then back to the parks. My question is.....Is the transportation okay enough to do this much back and forth stuff easily? I don't want to be wasting valuable time waiting for buses/boats. And also...I know this has been addressed at some point in this thread, but..any room suggestions for a family of 3, myself, dh and 9 y/o dd. We would love a decent view, but who doesn't. Will most likely book a standard view and hope for some pixie-dust. But I just don't want to be sitting over a loading dock, which I understand could happen. Thanks for any and all info. I can't wait to book this one!!!!

I think you and your DFam will absolutely LOVE WL (boy, are you lucky!!) You should request a room with bunks (more walking space in the room and your DD will get a kick out of 'em...top bunk one night, bottom the next...:D ) I wouldn't sweat the transportation "dilemma"....we stayed last year July/Aug and it really wasn't too bad, especially going to and from MK via the "friendships". The only "horrid" bus rides were when we visited DTD....factor in extra time when going there:wave: ....

Usually. guest seldom wait longer than 10 minutes for the boats to MK. The buses also run pretty frequent. We have never had any sort of problems with the transportation (and we have stayed at WL 3 times). Good luck with your decision. I know you will not be disappointed if you choose to stay at WL!
