We signed our paperwork as first-time DVC members Monday w/ 300 points at VGF. Today, I called our sales agent to book our February trip (not flexible, as DD only gets a week off school then). We were disappointed to learn that our week was not available (studio or 1 BR).

I'm waiting to find out if a studio TPV @ BLT is available, as we wanted our very first DVC stay to be awesome (after that, we are pretty flexible).

We are a little overwhelmed and DH is considering canceling the entire transaction ( :scared: ).

My question is how common is it for wait-listed stays to come through? I am planning to call at exactly 11 months for our October Fall Break trip to ensure we get our 1 BR.

You can still have an awesome first trip even if you are not able to get your first choice. We had a LV at BLT and liked it better than TPV and we were able to see the MK from our balcony.

Unfortunately, you are trying to get a resort during school vacation within the 7 month time frame which will always be harder. Keep trying and branch out this year. Next year you should be able to get VGF for Feb. vacation and your Oct. trip.

Yes, waitlists do happen. VGF may not this year though.

Congratulations and welcome home, I hope. With all those points why don't you split your stay. Sign up for a 2bdrm at Gf for now, with a wait list for the studio with part of your stay. Then try for the BLT with some of the rest points and maybe WV for the rest. While split stays are not for everyone they do allow you to stay at more than one immediately and with the GV 2 bdrm you will get experience your home resort soon.:dance3:

Call your Guide back and tell him that your are re-thinking your purchase because you can't get a room at VGF. Have him check with his manager to see if there is anything that they can do.

Ok, we are booked. TPV studio. Had hoped to blow out our first trip but we went ahead and banked the rest from 2013, so we will have 417 to use for our October 2014 trip. My head is spinning.

Did your Guide refuse to help you get a room at VGF? I am surprised because DVD is holding room inventory at VGF not available to DVC Members.

He tried. It isn't available for the Sat, Sun & Thurs nights of our stay.

This would be expected as VGF is likely to be something you'd have to book in the home resort window and for the most part, right at 11 months out. You likely should have made your purchase contingent on the reservation.

You are correct. We will get it for our October 2014 stay. I think I've calmed DH down for now. We mostly just purchased at the VGF because we didn't want to wait two years for the Poly.

Ask your guide. Sometimes they have helped new owners get what they want.

I think you ran into this problem because you're so close to February.

This shouldn't happen if you book 11 months out, from now on.

Glad you got something booked and hope your DH is back "on board". ;)

I wonder what he checked and if you where a little more adamant about staying there if he would have come through. According to my information Disney has 26 equivalent 2 bedroom units not available for DVC bookings. They could be 26 studios and 26 1 bedrooms or 26 2 bedrooms or a combination.

Hopefully you knew/know there are other choices than simply those 2. It would not make sense to buy VGF simply to get into the system without wanting to stay there routinely.

Just wanted to encourage you to use the waitlist.

As more VGF points are sold, there should be more inventory declared for DVC usage so I think you would at least have a chance of getting lucky with a waitlist (despite being only 4 months out during a peak period). JM2C.

VGF is already 75% declared and it's not likely that they will declare any additional units soon, that's about 1.5 million points available for sale before declaration.

We are actually looking forward to moving around a little and checking out other resorts (and I especially love the location of the Beach Club) but wanted our first stay to be at VGF. It's definitely because we're so close to February. The weekend we're going is the end of President's Week and the princess marathon.

I think I will go ahead and waitlist. It can't hurt, right? Are there any downsides to waitlisting?

There are a couple of potential issues with waitlisting. If the room you are waitlisted for is less expensive than your current reservation, points will be returned to your account if the waitlist comes through. If this occurs after your banking deadline, those points will expire at the end of their current UY if not used for something else. Also, you have two options for the expiration date of your waitlist: 1) 30 days prior to check-in or 2) 7 days prior to check-in. If you pick the second option, any points returned to your account will be holding points and they can only be used to book something at the last minute (60 days prior to check in) and cannot be banked.

Again, both of these issues occur only when you are waitlisting for a less expensive room than the one you currently have booked.

It is less expensive (169 VGF studio standard view vs. 183 BLT studio TPV), so a different of 14 points. We were hoping for a standard view 1 BR (340 points, using the 300 banked from 2013 and using 40 from 2014). I think our points would be more judiciously used in a 1BR SV for our October trip and still have a little to bank for 2015.

Math, man. Not my strong point. :scared:
