NEW VGF Building

Am i crazy for wanting a small contract (50-75 pts) for a few nights in a studio every other year? We own direct at Riviera for our main family vacations, but I love the holidays at Disney and would love to just have a long weekend in December at GF every once in a while...that's the dream right ;)
We did exactly this, but at Poly. We have 125 points at Animal Kingdom for our main vacations, and bought a loaded 50-point Poly contract for occasional long weekends with banking/borrowing.

Just like all the speculating about what covid will do to resale or how riviera resale will be $50pp due to restrictions- we can assume that whatever we posit is likely wrong. DVC is going to do whatever makes it the most money and that’s all we can rely on. That means high point price, high point chart, and restrictions if they feel it bolsters direct sales. This is their flagship resort, they will leverage that.

don’t forget Chapek said he hates GF as it stands and that it’s “getting killed by Four Seasons”. He said he wants “modern luxury”. I’m dying to see what tack they take with the rooms and if they will give clues to the figure vibe of the resort.
Well stepping up the decor to a “ luxury” status would certainly justify high buy in prices and higher point charts. Interesting you brought that up! There has to be more of a reason to justify $255/pt. and higher in mass other than just stating it’s a “flagship” resort. Competing with Four Seasons? Wow!!

I'm trying to guess if DVC is just being sloppy in their wording with "Resort studio" or if it does mean a different category which will be more like keeping the 2 queens plus a single murphy bed. I'm starting to lean the direction that's what they're going to try but then I hope they change the name from Resort studio as it's a bit too similar for what would be a very different accommodation.

If they do refurb to be like the existing studios then I'm expecting it will just be a request for what building you are in like it is with PVB. I think the new building will be popular too so requests shouldn't be too difficult to have met for a building. And apparently if you book a 1 or 2BR or a GV you'll definitely know the building.

@KAT4DISNEY, I am hoping to have a response to this question within the next few days. I inquired about my fixed week studio lake contract and have received differing responses. We shall see what Member Administration says about the contract language.

What exactly did you ask them if you can elaborate ?

Hello,

My name is Jim XXXXX and my membership number is XXXX-XXXX-XXXX.

In 2013, I purchased a fixed week contract, at the Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, for Week 49 in a studio lake view. When I read and signed the contract, it was my understanding that my yearly reservation would be in the newly constructed building. Moreover, the public offering statement states the address as 4501 Floridian Way.

For the duration of the contract, will my reservations be made for the leasehold condominium I had originally purchased or, legally, is DVC/the onsite cast members who schedule room assignment able to assign any available villa?

It is my sincere hope that my future reservations will be honored at the original villa building.

Kind regards,
Jim

Thanks for asking this!! At this time I prefer to have my reservations at the VGF DVC building. I would like to know if there are going to be two booking categories such as Jambo and Kidani ?

Thing is it's not actually decor that makes a 4 seasons. It runs much deeper than that and Disney would have to revamp their entire mentality of hotel operations and amenities. I'm not positive it would be worth their while though. They could probably accomplish as much by restoring more onsite benefits and backing out of giving them to other hotels in the area.

We, too, prefer the VGF DVC building, for a number of reasons, and hope that it is a Jambo/Kidani scenario rather than PVB.

A new room category would essentially guarantee the original building.

Random note: The building currently has 198 hotel rooms, one 1 bedroom suite (size of 2 rooms) and one 2 bedroom suite (size of 3 rooms).

Which means there is space for 203 studios. I wonder if they’re keeping the 2 bedroom cash suite? Can they even do that?

Maybe the 1 and 2 bedrooms could be renovated into concierge and Club level lounge.

Maybe they are going to use them to create a laundry area or models?

But I would assume they could as long as when the units are defined they leave those out?

To me, it makes the most sense for this to be exactly like a Jambo/Kidani setup.

Perhaps this will be like Vero Beach, which has Deluxe Studio, Deluxe Inn Room - Standard View, and Deluxe Inn Room - Ocean View.

I would think not If it’s the entire building. They could have a few studios that are of a different design( think of the alternate rooms at CCV) and still lump them into the same studio categories.

Speaking of, Big Pine has 4 oversized rooms currently in a separate booking category “deluxe garden” that I do not anticipate they will bother to fix, as their size is due to their extension into the cupola:
