new universal commerical

Oh good, I'm not the only one who thinks that commercial is just plain horrible.

I wonder how much those kids got paid to say those things.

I'm soooo annoyed! The commerical has 4 kids. 1 says "if i had to hug one more princess I thought I would vomit" kid 2 "Sure I liked fairy tales when i was 5" Kid 3 "In case you didn't notice I'm not 8, I'm 8 and a 1/2 now" Kid 4 "Who goes to bed at 7?"

If this is suppose to be humorous or cute, it's not! I'm not one to complain or bring anything/one down but this seems uncalled for. The only way you can advertize is thru insult? (real nice)
1. I'm 24 and frankly I feel you can never hug enough princesses.
2. Fairy tales are what make this world a happy place. We all need something to believe in and what's better than a happily ever after?
3. What is this 7pm bedtime all about. EMH I'm running thru the MK with 7yrs olds while playing on Buzz Lightyear. Not to much those late nite swims which we all all victims of.

Sorry I had to vent. and PS take note from the experts and bring magic into the commericals. Have families connect thru happiness and watch your parks fill up. THANK YOU!

hmmm so are you also annoyed at the jackie chan coke pepsi commercial where the coke can is the double for pepsi and the coke can is smashed instead of the pepsi can? It's called marketing and advertising people, if one commercial changes what you believe in then well, i really don't know what to tell you.

Magic is what you make of it.

I get annoyed when I see that commercial too. But then you figure, Universal knows they will never ever live up to Disney...so they have to stoop that low. And rather than get more people, they'll only tick more people off. So it's their problem. It only makes us appreciate Disney more! :)

I know it may be hard to believe but not everyone loves disney

Really??? Well..I would say there are many out there that might disagree with you when it comes to WDW. The magic is there. At Universal, not so much.

NOW...FUN is what you make it, maybe. I have been to US twice and we had a pretty good time...as amatter of fact, we had a BALL the first time(and we felt NO magic)...the second time was a little much. We were bored pretty quickly and have no desire to go back.

I have no idea what commercial you speak of and I really don't care. This is basically a lighthearted poke of a thread that lets us discuss the fact that we don't like the US commercials...or that we do. Businesses have commercials all the time that poke at the competitors. Its the way it is. But the US commercials are some of the tackiest I've seen. And, oddly enough, WDW doesn't even NEED to respond. How funny.

I think we all know that.....lemme check...yeah...we all know that.

Another funny thing....the US commercial is directed at people who ARE Disney fans...and who may be "outgrowing" WDW....or think they need a change....looks to me by those tacky(did I mention those commercials are tacky) things that US sure feels the need to bring in more guests. I wonder why?

Before I started planning our trip last year, I asked my dd10 and ds8 where they would rather go, WDW or Universal. Without even thinking about it they answered Disney. I too saw the commercial. And I also agreed that they were trying to send out a certain message and I thought it was petty and very tacky. I will choose Buzzlight year and ShowWhite anyday over Shrek and Spiderman!!!

I think the commercial is hilarious, and I'm a HUGE Disney fan. Never been to US, but we're considering a couple days there on our October trip.. in part because I like their sense of humor. So, I guess their ads work on someone. (Although, I did like their previous campaign better.)

The only problem I see with the commercials that have been aired on the Dish is that they are indistinguishable from a Six Flags commercial. To me THAT is where they are making a mistake. Six Flags has already done comparison based commercials. If US wanted to do them then they needed to emphasize their differences from both locations.

Other than that the princess/vomit commercials sound right on the money. The whole princess thing bugs me no end since princes and princesses are oppressors-in-training. What kind of model is that for a kid? Slave owning, serf controlling, tax imposing, beheaders...bah! Hmmm...maybe I should shoot a note off to Universal. I'm sure there is a commericial in that rant.

Universal rocks!!! We spent two weeks there last August (that included 3 days at BGT). We loved it and didn't miss the Mouse.

Now, we would still take WDW over UO hands down. WDW definitely excels in magic area and has Universal hands down in the character, parade and closing show departments.

I do not mind the commercials. It's just competition. We should all consider ourselve lucky to have two great vacation destinations in one town (well one county). The fact that they compete can only be good for us.

The one thing I didn't get was the crack about not going to bed at 7:00. WDW stays open way later than UO on average. In fact, if I had one complaint about our vacation last year it was that there was nothing to do after 7:00. Both parks closed and my kids are kind of young for CityWalk.

I think the bottom line here is that they are just two totally different parks. US is a fine park as theme parks go. The visuals are wonderful in IoA and I really like some of the rides(I love Spiderman). That being said, I think US needs to come on with a different approach. I can't imagine that they are grabbing the WDW crowd with those things...and that's obviously what they intend to do.

There is enough room for both parks in Orlando and one won't put the other out of business. As much as I hate their ads, I can do nothing about them and will just sneer and move on when I see them. WDW will always have the "magic". That won't change and no other park can touch them. With WDW we see the creator, we know his intentions. We love this guy. And there is history there. We know Walt intended to make theme parks that young and old alike could enjoy and where families could be together...versus the nasty old carnivals he went to when he was a kid(or were those Six Flags?? ;) ). Because of Walter Elias Disney, there is a monopoly on the MAGIC. No other parks have it. No other parks ever will.

I am SO with you on those commercials!
Now they are showing a commercial that looks like an older one...either they've added on to the end or I never noticed it before...anyway, it's the one where the woman with the big bazoombas is on Jurassic Park and as they're going down the hill, she grabs each of her kids and holds them against those bazoombas. At the end of the commercial, a voice says something like, "Your family has moved on, isn't it time your vacation moves on too"....I am clueless as to how Universal thinks that these commercials will sell tickets. US will never be Disney, and there's plenty of room for the both of them in Orlando. Oh well. I have no idea why this bothers me so much, but it does :rolleyes2

I still laughing because you used the word "bazoombas" and knew how to spell it. :lmao:

Is there a WRONG way to spell it??? Hey...I thought I made that up, all by myself. Oh well....

My DD's best friend calls them hoogas :teeth:

I had actually planned to try out US in May but changed due to the tackiness (open after 7:00, what?!!!). Truth in advertising is important to us. Instead we are getting APs and enjoying Disney!

BTW, I thought one of our bus drivers said it perfectly when he commented "Notice nobody compares themself to Universal, but EVERYONE compares themself to Disney..." :teeth:

I totally agree with you on this! DH and I went to Universal the day before we went to Disney....it was ok, but definately NO Disney!!!

It's sad when Universal has to stoop so low in their advertising....I would think this would be counterproductive!

this is the 3rd or 4th thread started about something so ridiculous as a commercial campaign. grow up and open your eyes and minds to the fact that there are serious alternatives to a Disney vacation in the Orlando area.

This topic has already been discussed to death in another thread. Also in that thread were several people who actually enjoyed the commercial.

I also can't see why people can't enjoy both resorts, they are both great in their own way, but Universal has done so much more than Disney in the past several years in the quality of their attractions, and Disney needs to improve. Universal has the top quality parks and resorts, now they needed the marketing punch to go with it.

I think the commercial is funny and it did what it set out to do, get people talking, the Kids stay play and eat free part can't hurt either. You may not like what the commercial says, but like or hate it, it's better than not noticing it was there at all.

Universal's attendance was down last year, correct, but that was after a huge increase in the year before that.

Wow...what a harsh comment. I took this thread to be lighthearted in nature...and I haven't seen the other threads pertaining to this. I find it rather sad when people get so darned serious over something like a silly thread. I actually enjoy Universal. I think its a great park. I think Orlando has wonderfully different vacation opportunities. We plan on going to SeaWorld this fall and we've done other things while down there. No one here needs to "grow up". Nor have many said they didn't like Universal, the theme park. We are merely stating our opinions on the present ads. I think its pretty obvious that most of us that have posted know nothing about the previous threads...and again, its all in fun. I really doubt anyone is going to lose any sleep over these ads. I think I know someone else who needs to "grow up". If there have been so many other threads, then I'm supposing not many more people will post. The thread will then die out, as it should. In the meantime, I would suggest you find another thread that doesn't bug you so much.

one of the taglines of the commercial is 'your family has moved on, isn't it time your vacation did?' IE...Grow Up.

I'm about as much of a Disney nut as you could ever meet, but I thought the commercial was quite funny.
Besides, they did have a point about staying up past 7 pm. :rolleyes1
