New Universal Commercial? Kinda Rude...

I've never been to Universal, but I've been to Six Flags, which doesn't seem too much different, except that Universal is bigger and has more of a "resort"-like feel to it. Six Flags didn't rip at Disney, they just tried to imitate it. "Westernland"? "Main Street"? Come on!

Yet again, I rest my case. I've never been to Animal Kingdom, but it has animals, so I could go to the local zoo and see the same thing...right...RIGHT???

:rolleyes2

The zoo is cheaper too! lol

Universal is like Six Flags? Now that is the funniest thing I've seen today. Sure and Disney is like a carnival. Uh, no.

Both resorts are WONDERFUL. They are competing for the same dollars but they offer totally different experiences. We divide our time between the two now and I wouldn't have it any other way.

The commercial? Eh, just a little silly poking at Disney. They do it to each other all of the time and this is nothing new.

I bet if someone asked those kiddos where they'd rather go they'd choose DISNEY!!! I know my kids would...
Mine chose Universal which is why we went to begin with. I resisted at first but boy did I feel silly when I found out how much fun it was. Now we all love it. :goodvibes

Sorry, your statement isn't always true.

Not the San Diego zoo, at least not by much. I was shocked when we paid for our passes there. Of course, we added all of the extras but still. :confused3

I just saw it for the first time today and came here to post to see if anyone else had seen it. I was pretty annoyed by it too. I agree with other posters who have said they wish US would have promoted themselves rather than put down Disney. I understand advertising (hey, I've done it,) but it's just such a dirty way to play.

I agree with all the posters who see no issue with the commercial. It's just a commercial, if you don't like US/IOA don't go - it's pretty simple but all of the people saying it's like 6 Flags and I've never been but it's awful are pretty funny honestly. I love Disney and I love US/IOA for totally different reasons. Both parks are great in their own way and I don't see why you have to "pick a team". US is only showing that they are an alternative to Disney. They won't turn your children into brats (LOVED that one :lmao: ) It's just a different theme park for those who want something different.

i have only seen a portion of the commercial. from what i have read on this thread, there is more to the commercial than the little girl in the beginning by the hulk ride, she quotes the famous hulk tshirt saying........so kewl

yea, i get to visit the happy place in october. i love hhn, completely and totally addicted to it. and the rides are great also !!

sure wish i could see the commercial in its entirety..........from what i saw, i am sure i am missing a lot of it. can't figure out what the uproar is about.

wish there was a link so i could see it also.....

i saw this morning on vh1( the princess one), probably can be more catch on travel channel

but i was upset, it was kinda rude.

::yes:: I agree, people can be so silly.

We love both WDW and Universal/IOA. I think the Universal commercial is hysterical. :confused3 Heck, I like to go to Universal when the princesses are making me hurl too.

So, how many of you saw the Diet Pepsi commercial they just played during the superbowl? Did you find it funny?

For those who missed it, the commercial was about making a commercial with Jackie Chan. They told him they would need to use a stunt double. During the filming, you see a can of Diet Pepsi. The director yells "Bring in the stunt double". The stunt double isn't for Jackie Chan. Instead, they replace the Diet Pepsi with a can of Diet Coke. Then, a big guy stomps it flat.

I thought it was hysterical and I'm a huge Diet Coke fan. I don't see any difference in this commercial than in the Universal one. I bet the bigwigs at Disney got a really big chuckle out of the commercial. You can love something and still see the humor in poking a little fun at it.

Ok the thing that gets me is when does Disney ever make fun of anyone else? really come on, can you think of one time? I can't.
I think the reason this commercial is such a big deal is because sure US has made comments before but this is over the top. It really isn't funny. Who do they think they are?
I also think the reason US is always making jokins and poking funa t Disney is because they can't reach as high a level Disney is at. They're a jealous commpetitor. I agree with all the people that were saying that the whole commercial was about dissing Disney, there was no promoting their "parks".
I can't really say much about the actual US/IOA because I've never been (and don't plan to) but it seems focused more towards teens and young adults. I know people have said "oh well there's suess land...", well I get that but what four year old is going to choose to go on a merry-go-ground over it's a small world? no kid i know.
So really Universal back off Disney!!!!!!

The thing is, IT IS funny, to the people the commercial will appeal to. If you are a die-hard WDW fan who has never been to Universal and will never give it a chance, you aren't expected to get it. I am 38, no where near a teen, and I love Universal. We haven't been there in a couple of years, but have been to Disney, and my 4 year old asked me the other day when we can go to Universal again. :confused3 There is a lot more than a merry-go-round for kids. And for us adults that don't do thrill rides.

We love WDW too, but Universal/IOA is a whole different place, and we love it too. The advertising is saying "We are not Disney". And they are not. Believe it or not, there are people out there that don't think Disney is the be-all and end-all of places to go, and that is who that commercial is aimed at. There is no commercial that Universal could make that would encourage a Disney fan who disses Universal without ever having been there to try it out.
