Hi ladies, I was hoping I could join in your group.

I have been off BCPs (seasonale) for a year at the end of this month, and we have actually been "trying" (using OPKs, etc.) since late January of 2009 (right after our wedding). I have always had horribly long cycles which I used to think was great. Now, not so much  I am 27 now and DH is 46.

My cycles after quitting BCPs kept getting progressively longer. The first was 29 days, then 35, then 40, then 42. On the 40 day cycle (right after our wedding/HM) I think I had a chemical pregnancy, though I was just confused by the faint positive line on two days then the start of AF three days later at the time...

This spring, I had a cycle that lasted almost 60 days. I hoped that meant I was pg, but they did a Blood test and it came back negative. They then started me on generic Provera to induce AF, which started after five days.

It was then that we bought a CBEFM and started using it. It showed high fertility for almost 20 days, but never reached peak and stopped asking in mid-late June. I kept waiting and waiting for AF to start (or to get a BFP) but got really busy with life in general. I decided to call about taking the medication again and took one more HPT just to be sure on Aug 3rd (day 70 of that cycle) and got a BFP! :goodvibes

DH and I were overjoyed, but of course had absolutley no idea how far along we were; it could have been anywhere up to 10 weeks ( I had taken a test...or 5... in very early July before going to WDW and got a BFN, so I thought it couldn't be anywhere near that far). When we got into the OBs office on August 12, we were at 5 weeks 5 days (meaning I must have ovulated on day 53...). We saw the heartbeat and it was a little low (87BPM) but the Dr was not concerned and said everything looked normal for that stage. :)

AT exactly 6wks I had some very light spotting. They told me I could because of the ultrasound, but I was worried that it took two days to start. 2 days later I had some very funny feelings and thought something was wrong (this was all over a weekend). :guilty: On Monday, I called the Dr and he said not to worry as it was just light brown spotting at that point, but to call if anything changed. Two hours after I hung up, it turned birght red. I was still hopeful as it only happened when I went to the bathroom.

I went in the next day and there was no heartbeat. :sad1: I opted to let nature take its course instead of doing a D&C, though the Dr did have me take some really horrible medicine after a day that made the whole experience 100 times worse. Even so, I was glad I had done it that way so I knew for sure there was no mistake. :sad1:

That was exactly 8 weeks ago. When I talked to the DR to follow up, he said I needed to have a normal cycle before we started to TTC again, for my "emotional well being". He said there was no real medical reason, once the blood tests showed everything had returned to the correct levels.

DH and I decided that our emotional well being was up to us and us alone, so we charted last month with the CBEFM and did make the decision to TTC as all of my hormone levels had returned to normal (Blood test on 9/11 confirmed this). I ovulated at 42 days after they detected no heartbeat (But I still had a BFP on the HPT 1.5 weeks later, so I guess probably 28 or so days into actual cycle...). I had false pregnancy symptoms over the past week, as AF arrived today at exactly 8 weeks after our miscarriage.

My Dr. said he would give me some medication to help to regulate my cycle, but IDK what to think about that. I am ovulating, I just have a long (and somewhat erratic) cycle length, so I don't know that Clomid or similar would really help. DH and I decided to just try on our own this month, let me have a "normal" cycle, and see what kind of cycle length I have. My biggest concern is that my cycle is so long the CBEFM may easily miss my ovulation day (I have to reset it after 20 days as it quits asking for tests, and if you reset it to day 5 it will only ask for 3 more tests). So I will be armed with extra OPK materials for the days during the "reset" phase, to ensure I don't miss anything. If my cycle is 40-42 days I can handle it (we are getting 2 tries to everyone elses 3). If it is going to be 60+ days I want to try to correct it with medication (we are getting less than 1 try to everyone else's 2).

Sorry for the novel. I just couldn't stop writing! It felt better to get it all out there, though!

Amy...WELCOME to the TTC thread!! As we always say: We hope your stay is a short one!! It sounds like you have been through a lot lately. I am so sorry about your loss. I know that you say you are ovulating, but your cycles are obviously out of whack! I would definitely look into doing something to help regulate your cycles. I O regularly and my cycles are pretty "normal" (around 29-32 days). I was given clomid while doing IUI to try to get a "better" O. My follicles got bigger with the clomid. You also have to try to look at your luteal phase as well since a short luteal phase can lead to miscarriage as well. If you are missing your O date, you won't be able to tell the length of your luteal phase.

Feel free to write anything and everything on here!! I know writing helps me a whole lot, too!! Everyone on here is just as knowledgeable as they are caring. :goodvibes

Welcome, Amy. I'm sorry about your past troubles. :( Hopefully your stay here won't be long!

I actually FINALLY got up the nerve to call the RE today. Well, no, I called my PCP because insurance wont' accept a referral from my gyno. And I can't go to an RE without a referral. From my PCP. Whose office is CLOSED on Wednesdays!!!!!!!! :sad2:

Doesn't that just suck? Finally decide to make the call and am thwarted!

Welcome Amy! Sounds like you've had quite a trip on our journey! Keep on reading on posting as you never know who has gone through something similar AND you never know what you are going to share that would be helpful to someone else! There is a great group of strong women here to support you! Hang in there!

Mom's not coming in this weekend so need to plan some other things. My gyno appt is next week so I am trying to put together my list to ask her. Hoping the "machine" can give me some answers too.

Hope you are all well!

Si-am ~ Uggg that's frusterating! I had to reschedule my first appt. with my gyno to talk about TTC because I got AF 2 days before. Very annoying.

Aw Si-Am!! Sounds like something that would happen to me!! Call first thing tomorrow!! You can do it!! :goodvibes

I received a packet of info from the RE today. Lots of forms to fill out and info to read. It's exciting, though! After the 3rd failed IUI, I was so beat down and just ready to quit. It's only been a few weeks since then, but this whole RE thing has really gotten me excited again.

I do have to call them about the whole referral thing and insurance. There's a form in the packet that talks about needing approval from the insurance company first otherwise, treatment/testing that would normally be covered may not be covered. I don't think the RE was ever approved through my insurance company. I need to call my OB/GYN to see about getting the medical records release form, so I'll ask about the referral, too. I'm not sure if they can call the insurance company for me about that or if I need to do so. They usually call for me so I hope they do so again.

Ugh, I really hate insurance and how difficult they make things! It is my gyno who wants me to see an RE, but my insurance needs a referral from my regular physician for any specialist visit. I NEVER go to the doctor, and she doesn't even KNOW I'm trying to TTC.

I don't really know what the protocol is. I assume the doctor's office will fill out some kind of referral form for me, and hopefully tell me who I'm supposed to go see. We have a ton of REs in Atlanta but only a few are in-network with my insurance.

And after I get through all THAT, I'll have to somehow get all my records from my gyno, and I'm sure they charge an outrageous fee for that.

Thanks for the welcome ladies. No offense, but I hope not to be here for long either!

si-am, sorry about your difficulties yesterday. I would have had trouble making the call too and then to be impeded like that...ugh.

My insurance is stupid too. I had to go to my Gyn (she's not an OB) when I found out I was pg so I could POAS and she could refer me to the OB. Nice $50 copay visit for that. It's amazing how even the Drs think it is stupid! My insurance card is still in my maiden name. I've asked for a new one several times. All they send me is letters telling me my rate has increased... :P

I took the First respone FSH fertility test this morning and it came back that that was normal for me (well, at least according to that stick), so I guess that was good.

Skuttle: Thanks for mentioning the Luteal phase. I had never researched that before. This time, I did catch when I was ovulating (according to the CBEFM) and it was at it's peak on the 29 & 30 of Sept, then my cycle started the 13 of Oct, which should be okay. I'm going to watch for that much more carefully now, though.

Have a great day everyone!

Well I got an appointment with my PCP for Monday-- they're making me come in and talk to the doctor to get a referral. Which is actually kind of dumb because what is she going to do that four months of treatments at the gyno didn't fix? :sad2:

At least the ball's rolling though!

Congrats on taking that step si-am!! Even though it's just a step to get through some red tape, it's still a step in the right direction!! :cool1:

irisbud...I'm glad I was able to help!! I've been on here WAY too long, but I have learned a lot along the way! I still can't believe how clueless I was regarding how my body works before I started having trouble TTC! It's almost embarrassing!! Another point...the more often you O, the more chances you have of getting that BFP!! Good luck!!

Whoo Hooo! The machine says it's "Go Time"! :cool1:It actually worked! We have DSD this weekend! Poor kid, she's gonna have a real boring weekend watching whatever she wants on TV and going to the next door neighbor kid's house! Yeah, i feel bad for her. . . NOT! :lmao:

Bring on the dust ladies! pixiedust:

I'll drink to your success. :drinking1

Ha Ha! Sweetest Day weekend! Totally forgot that! Well the little princess is still awake but played a b-ball game tonight so will sleep soundly! :goodvibes

All kidding aside, really, how long do I have to lay there with my legs in the air?;) Seriously I can't believe I'm asking but heck if the machine says we're at "Go TIME" I'm going full force into this!

I usually layed there for 15 min. No legs in the air but I would either just have my knees up or try and put a pillow underneath. That didn't work well if you KWIM. Ugh.

They actually tilted the bed for me,so I was laying leaning backwards. Unfortunately, it never made a difference. :sad2: Hopefully it will for you, E!!!

Too much information girlfriend!!! Now I have this picture in my head. :scared1::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::scared1:

Hey all, Well I have my first appt with the RE on November 3. Still struggling to get my gyno medical records released, but other than that things are going smoothly with the referrals, paperwork, etc.

I feel so much better now that I'm actually doing something about things again. I'll keep you posted!
