Hi, i am new to VMK, and feeling a lil' (ok, alot) overwhelmed!! LOL Do you have any advice/tips/instructions for a newbie to VMK? I started to read the FAQ thread here.. but i am doubting that i will ever learn all the how/to's here! LOL :surfweb: :scared:

well first of all welcome to vmk and dis! second if you have a certain question dont be afraid to ask! there are so many awesome and helpful people on this board :upsidedow

Well, first, it's a game, so there is no deadline to get anything done by a certain time. Second, the more you play, the easier it gets. Don't worry about the quests, you can do those a bit later. I would start with the free daily credits, and getting familiar with the buttons and where rooms are. Then it will be easier for you to do the quests because you know what the rooms look like (some quest questions require you to go to a particular room, that you have to figure out where - that's when the guides help).

Welcome to the addiction, and don't forget to enjoy yourself!

Thanks!! As you can see, i am not new to the DIS.. but i am slow at work this time of year, and decided i needed a new obsession, so, here i am! (I KNOW i will be up late tonight.. now, lol).
I am trying to visit the stores, then i get to add a page to my catalog right?? And, the stores "Specials" change.. right? About how often?

Sorry, i will probably have tons of questions.. i just really think it's gonna be fun.. my dd is addicted to Webkinz, which makes me think this is similar in some small ways (buying and decorating rooms and clothes). And what could be more fun than a VMK?! LOL

Oops! lol Yes specials change sometimes they stay for a while and sometimes only for the weekend usually there is a weekend pin that is only put friday-sunday. During normal months there are usually some new items but its kind of odd with dreams month.

Hi,

The place to start here on the VMK board is the players guide in the sticky thread but here it is for you: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=957598 This covers a ton of stuff. Feel free to look around and ask questions. It is similar in some respects to other online games like Webkinz but is quite a bit different, I feel it is quite a bit more interactive between players and you can find some real great freinds here if you want.

Things are a little different right now then they have been in the past as they would nnormally have specials in the stores Friday-Sunday usually including a Pin. They would then have one pin from the set as a host Prize during host events. (this had been the most recent way they have operated) The last two months there was not a "host pin" but they still had events, this month all events are Dream month related and are all around. Because of this you will likely find groups of us all together in private rooms or public rooms. If we happen to be paying attention we might respond but don't feel to bad if it appears mmany people appear unresponsive. Because we are more or less camped out waiting for a host they may be AFK or in another widow talking or playing games. However feel free to say hi if you see any of us.

VMK can be a bit confusing at first, but once you find your way around, honest, it's rather simple.

If you have not done so yet, give the Players Guide at the top of this Main Board a read. There is a LOT of information, but very helpful. You're very fortunate to have DIS from the beginning. I didn't stumble upon DIS until my 2nd month of VMK. Had to figure it out and make friends just through playing. (Some of those friends I still play with 2 years later :cool1: )

Anywho... give the guide a read and feel free to post questions you may have. People will help. :)

And welcome!

Thanks again, i started reading the guide, and will catch up on it later tonight after dd's open house at school.. But, i found even in the guide, some of it seemed in another language to me.. LOL I am sure it will get easier, but i am just dying to learn... I have a bad habit of going commando on something until i understand/learn about it.. LOL Can be a good thing, can be a bad thing too though. ;)

Welcome to VMK! You will catch on very quickly. I was totally overwhelmed at first too. Learned the basics and went from there. This board has been the biggest help! And I've made some great friends here/vmk and that's the best part. There are things I still don't understand, so I just ask either here or while in the game, and everyone has always been so helpful. Hope to see you around!!

Welcome to VMK! Well if you are looking for a new obsession, you have definately found one.:cool1: VMK is addicting. If we ever are on VMK at the same time, i would love to connect and get on each other's friend list and show you around. I too have open house tonight, though. Send me a pm if you have any specific questions.

Be careful.... i just started playing vmk in June...and well... I am a bit obsessed!! hehe

I totally hear you about commando, I am the same way. What I did was learn some of the ropes, try and play some of the games. For me, the fireworks game is the easiest and the way I get most of my credit. There is a thread on here about the best way to play that game, look for it. It is helpful.

Next I started to play some of the quests. Start by getting your license and then the blue car.

At first, I was most excited about getting clothes...and that is still my thing. But now that I have played for awhile, and amassed some credit, I am getting more into building rooms. If a new outfit or pin etc..goes on sale, buy a couple extra to store away for future trading.

Also once you start getting credit built up, check out the trading board on here. It is great for starting to get more rare items. There are some people who will accept trading via doing a shopping spree. This is great for someone like you and me who don't have a lot of old or rare items. For example, say you want the 4th of July mickey ears hat. Someone is willing to trade it for a spree and you offer to get them 4 peter pan hats in exchange. You would go buy the hats and meet up with the person for the trade. Just be careful in trading and try to trade with people who have a good reputation. Fortunately, I have had good experience with people on the dis boards.

Otherwise..have fun and just learn the ropes!!

:woohoo:

Thanks so much everyone!! I am getting ready to sit and do some reading here tonight.. LOL DD goes to bed at 8.. lol.. but who's counting..

BTW, my name on VMK is FabulousBrightSky .

Wow Tofubeast.. thanks!LOL

I have a question though, can someone tell me more about how the quests in the real theme parks works? I am going to WDW in November and might be interested in doing something.. Also, i have seen some of the quests here, with the answers.. LOL ;) So, if you go that route, how do you get the "prize"? Do you have to turn in a paper at the parks?

Welcome.

Well they are removing VMK central on Sept. 30th, so Quests as we know it won't be happening. Unfortunately you will have to wait with the rest of us to see what happens ;)

Sorry to hear your about to be.come add.duck.dead to vmk LOL

Oh... wow.. so they are closing the VMK thing at MK?? How come? Is it not as popular?
