New to Site and need advice

I amnew to the site and want to get some tips on how to rent points to stay at one of the resorts. I understand how the points work but just need some advice on how to use the Rent/Trade site.

I want to take my entire family (10) in a few years and use the system. But in the meantime I want just my husband and myself to go next year and try the system out. Any advice or pointers? I know I need to pick a time and a resort, just a little careful about not messing anything up.
