I'm working on some very simple dresses for my dds to wear to see Disney Live! Three Classic Fairytales. They both wanted a Snow White inspired dress so I'm working on a jumper type dress with red straps, blue bodice, yellow skirt and red hem band. The skirt is slightly gathered. My oldest dd thought that we should put an apple on each skirt to make it more Snow White-y. I've done this type of thing on shirts before but never a skirt. Any tips on appliqueing the skirt? Placement and how it will work after gathering? Also, I have felt and red cotton fabric to use for the applique. I'm leaning toward the cotton because I feel like that will work better with the gathering. Am I wrong to think that?

Thanks

The cotton will definitely lay better for the apple applique. Felt is just to thick and heavy.

Personally with what you describe I would put the apple somewhere off to one side or the other and nearer the hem. You'll be able to see it better if it is further from the gathering.

Also I find it easier to do my applique work first then put the dress/outfit together. I would cut out the skirt and hem it then applique the apple then gather and attach it to the bodice.

This board is really more for the photoshop artwork type stuff. Any sewing help you should check out the disboutiquers thread on the Family board.

I hope my directions made sense. Feel free to PM me if not, as I don't check in around here often.
