New to DVC-seriously considering GCV-Need some help!

I just finalized my order for 160 pts with my guide. He is putting in the contract tonight! Thanks to Cheryl for the help and to everyone here who helped validate my thought process. Woo hoo!

As for RCI - I was disappointed since interval has better properties in general - but out west -particularly california - there are some very nice properties. So trading every now and then might work well for you. As well as the concierge collection. We're blowing a bunch of points for the hotel del coronado this summer. It would have cost us over $1400 total if we'd done cash - well over our mf's for those points - so it seemed worth it. IT's true the points don't go as far outside dvc resorts - but the flexibility to go elsewhere and splurge every now and then is worth something imo. I don't think you'll regret buying VGC - and if you did, it will probably be a snap to sell on the resale market.

Yeah, I was checking out some of the offerings on the coast and they did not seem too bad. We have developer points so we will either try to rent them out or deposit in RCI. I did not take the cruise as we are a family of 5 so we would need to cover airfare/ extra person/ room upgrade and having just returned from Orlando, those extra expenses did not seem like a good incentive for us. I am curious to see what new incentives might come up in the next few days.

Justkeepswimmin - Welcome Home Neighbor! :flower3:

Thanks!!

Now come the fun part-seeing if we can get a reservation at a 2 bdrm in December when they open reservations on 6/7. We have a trip planned in early Dec for christmas w/ my folks and will stay at DLH in 2 rooms if we can't get in at the villas but man a stay at the villas would be divine for the holidays!

You'll love DL for the holidays! I think you'll have a good chance of getting your reservation.

I would be right there trying for early Dec too if I wasn't going to WDW in Nov. I don't think my office would be too happy if I wanted more time off so soon after my Nov trip.

Welcome Home to you! :woohoo:
We also are in the system with our 125. DPs can also be used at DLR you know..much closer to you (and me) than Orlando. I already used my DP to book 3 nights at the Grand, Concierege level. ( I priced this out and it was $2,145 with taxes and resort fee, so I've made a dent in my cost/value figurings :) )

We did concierge once at DLH and really enjoyed it/ Hmm...seeing as we are going in early December wonder what the odds are I can convince dh to make a quick trip out this summer to use those developer points? There is also an RCI property on Coronado Island that does not look too bad. It is small but right across the street from the Hotel Del Coronado. A week there this summer is also appealing and would easily cost $1500 or more OOP for that time of year for 1 bdrm condo type accomodations.

Hi all!

I was reading through this post because I too have been mulling over a DVC membership for quite a while. Because I live in Washington, the GCV really peaked my interest, but we also like to travel other places. Your posts have been very insightful so thanks! I did wonder though, as I am new to posting on boards, what is DP? I see it referenced several times, but am not sure what it means? I think I've figured out most of the abbreviations but that one escapes me! :)

Thanks for any info!

Developer's Points. Often times DP's are used as an incentive for buyers. They are a one-time set of "extra" points given by the developer that come with various rules attached - for example current DP's must be used at one of the 3 DL hotels or Saratoga Springs at WDW by Oct. 3rd.

..I am guessing that is done because we have purchased property that is not able to be be occupied? Since the points expire in Oct, I am guessing the resort may be ready in November? Oh..my guide said that payments on my financed portion would not start until July, so I'm guessing there is some timeshare regulation into play here as well.
