New Ticket Upgrade Policy?

It's really going to depend on how the sentence was meant to be interpreted. As in:
3rd party tickets can no longer be upgraded to passes at a pro-rated rate.
3rd party tickets can no longer have days added.
3rd party tickets can no longer have options added at a discount.

That would be entirely different than 3rd party tickets can no longer be upgraded to passes at a pro-rated rate, nor can they have days added at a pro-rated rate, nor can they have options added at a discount (at a pro-rated rate?)

Agree that that is a poorly written sentence. That was my first thought as well.

But will they be able to have days or parkhopper added not at a discount? Will you be able to pay your $63 and get parkhoppers or are you stuck with non-parkhopper tickets?

I would imagine that IF you can indeed add days or options, but not for a discount, then you might have to not only pay the $63 for the park hopper option, but also the difference between the discounted ticket price that the 3rd party paid and the full gate price. Of course, that would mean you were paying the 3rd party seller's markup twice, which makes absolutely no sense.

Yes.

That is the unwanted situation that is the very reason for the "price bridging" practice.

Without "price bridging," the resellers are being thrown under the bus.

Exactly. I would imagine this situation has the 3rd party resellers in a tizzy (if they even know!!!). I've contacted Air Miles to see if I can get an answer from them as well.

Exactly. I could actually kind of understand if they did away with bridging for annual passes, since that seems to be something that is heavily used, possibly not in a way that Disney intends or desires. But allowing people to add PH for ~$60, or an additional day to a 5 day ticket for ~$10, is a totally different thing in my mind, and it would be insane to not continue to allow that.

What if the ticket was bought before the policy change? It seems awfully crappy of them to throw this change out there after people have made plans based on old policies. It also means I absolutely will not be spending the whole trip at disney and will take my business to universal instead. I hope all these negative changes start to impact their bank account so maybe they will realize they need to fix things. Not cool disney!

You bought them from a 3rd party ticket seller, so if this new policy is true (and it seems to be), your ticket will not be able to have days added at a discount.

I am not trying to add days, just the PH option.

We have a trip planned in April. If Disney doesn't allow my friend to add days to her UT ticket it won't be Disney that gets the money for the extra days we are there!!! :furious:

Insanity seems to be running rampant....Disney execs have lost their minds. I've been dreading our trip later this year. I want to cancel. We've promised two grandsons this vacation, purchased UT tickets and borrowed points, that must be used. This might be the last trip. Three times a year, now down to every year and a half... Too many undesirable changes with little to no notice.

I agree. Set up a price schedule for each change and stick to it.

I am not trying to add days, just the PH option. And how can it be a discount when I never paid for the ticket?

Your tickets were purchased from Disney by AirMiles, who is a third party reseller of Disney tickets, for a discount. Thus, they are discounted third party tickets. The fact that you didn't pay for them in cash is irrelevant. You "paid" for them in reward miles, and AirMiles re-sold them to you.

Unless a ticket was purchased DIRECTLY from Disney itself, it is a third party "discounted" ticket. It doesn't matter how the person ultimately holding the ticket obtained it, or what they paid for it. All that matters is who Disney originally sold it to.

I don't know. It is very vaguely (and badly, IMO) written. I guess we'll have to wait for clarification and/or verification from a CM who has access to The Hub.

I know we can take what any CM says with a grain of salt, but I called and the lady I talked to said that she had not heard anything and had been working there for 32 years (she said this many times???). I had to ask 4 times to speak to a manager and she said no one was available.

So, I basically wasted my time and got no where. At least I got to listen to the France movie soundtrack. It's my favorite Epcot movie :)

That seems to be the response everyone who has called Disney has gotten. Which either means that there has been no change, or there has been, but Disney just hasn't gotten around to actually officially informing everyone. Given what I've seen and heard in the past, I'd say either one is equally likely.

I think you'll be OK - there are large signs above the ticket booths that say something to the effect of "add parkhopper to any ticket (2 days or more) for just $x" Since it says you can add it to any ticket for that price (to me) - that means they would have to just charge you that amount - no playing around with price bridging or not.

That would make the most sense.

That signage is attached to the list of tickets sold at the ticket booths.
It would not (necessarily) extend to "any ticket" as there are plenty of tickets out there
for which that offer certainly does not apply.

That said, I'm thinking that Disney is not planning on killing their resellers…
and that the ability to upgrade by adding a Hopper option, or Water Parks Fun (or a "day" or more)
will still be offered to valid discounted tickets.
Time will tell.

(I wish Cheshire Figment were among us right now!)

I didn't read every page so sorry if this was mentioned, but I believe Disney is trying to stop the complicated upgrade/add-on/price bridging process. There have been numerous complicated "schemes" worked out to save the most money by buying discounted tickets, then bridging, then upgrading, then turning that into an AP over various scenarios. Disney is aware of it and is trying to eliminate the extra time and training required for ticketing CMs. They want you to go up to a window, buy a ticket and be on your way. They don't want to spend 20 minutes with you.

Just my theory.
