New Ticket Upgrade Policy?

And I never implied that you got the same word-for-word answer I did. I was merely pointing out the reply I got. YMMV

I didn't mean for it to come across that way. I'm on an iPad, sick in bed, and the stupid thing keeps auto-correcting me and deleting half thoughts/sentences making some odd combinations. Plus, I'm slightly drugged up. I'm trying to correct, but, admittedly not overly well at times.

I'm thinking I may have gotten a longer reply, more off the cuff than thought out. Maybe partly due to differences in questions asked specifically. My only point was it wasn't so 'politically crafted.'

I have no doubt that AllEars has excellent sources of Disney information. And that in the end, some version of these changes may prove to be true. But I find it irresponsible for them to post something as fact when they later say they are unsure. And to say "it was accurate at the time" but might be different today is disingenuous. The different reports of what changes are coming, the fact that the resellers seem to be entirely unaware at this point, and AllEars is the only one who reported this calls their credibility into question for me. Which is disappointing, because I always found their information to be generally accurate and not rumor-based like some other sites out there.

What I don't like is how they are pulling in reins in a CYA kind of way. It sounds as if the responses are becoming canned.

I am very upset to think that this is new policy as we sit 11 days from our next trip and we already have 5 day undercover tourist tickets linked to our magic bands. We had already planned on adding two days as now our daughter is joining us for part of the trip. We need to add the extra days to spend with her in the parks!!

This possible new policy is making me sad, too. We had to reschedule a trip originally planned for last year. I was excited about a longer WDW trip and wanted to add days and the waterpark option to our UT tickets.

I am going to be really upset if I can't upgrade my tickets! The confirmation I got says I can upgrade and add options. I'm not sure what to believe! But wdw should have at least warned the public before they made such a drastic change in policy!

For what it's worth, here's the response I got from UT about the tickets I bought from them on Feb. 23:

Hi Missy,
We will be checking with Disney tomorrow to find out about the upgrade to tickets and we will let you know as soon as we find out.
Thank you,

With the proviso that we do not know if this is true, for me there is a line between maximizing profit and greed. Inconveniencing guests without full public notice and seriously damaging those who built businesses based on being authorized Disney resellers, crosses that line for me.

I do not give my money to businesses that have no ethics and are "greedy".

While the financial impact is limited, it is not about $, if true, I will complete the trips I have planned and another around a convention in 2016 and will be done with Disney. I am lucky to have kids that understand these sorts of things.

DVC member so I will unload that also.

This is in line with what DVC owners saw a few months ago when a members created a great way to see what days had rooms available easily (something DVC should have done years ago) and Disney "asked" her to shut it down. There has been an increasing number of examples of this over the past few years.

I for 1 vote with my pocketbook when I see companies that step over the line.

IF this rumor is true and IF you believe in what you're saying then you should cancel all your trips now. To complete the trips you have planned would be hypocritical.

It's not hypocritical. The poster is a DVC member. So they are already financially invested in their trips. If they don't use their points, they just gave away free money to Disney. They could still stay at their resort but go to Universal, Sea World, etc and eat off property. Disney won't make any money on their stay and they will have made their point.

I am also a DVC owner. And I love Disney. But after the 2nd ticket increase and now this rumor, I am feeling extremely disappointed. If this turns out to be true, it will change how my family goes to Disney.

No sense cutting off your nose to spite your face. But to book additional trips after this would be hypocritical.

My guess is that this is a lot of "to do" about nothing. Any change couldn't be retroactive--if people have written confirmations from the various sellers then those sellers have the same from Disney. I find it highly unlikely that these businesses would be issuing written confirms if there was any chance Disney could change the rules at any time...these sellers are more familiar with Disney than we are---they know things change all the time! Everything is codes and computerized now. It is easy for Disney to tell whether the ticket was one purchase before the announcement (and therefor subject to Disney's obligation to honor its commitment to the seller) and after the announcement (and therefore not subject to any commitment on Disney's part).

And I would hope that Disney would actually make a public announcement.

Like they did about the price increase? Or any of the stuff having to do with FP+?

I know...that's my point. :sad2:

It's kinda hard to protect yourself when you don't know that the rules have changed.

11:20, just got off the phone with UT. They do not have an answer concerning the change in policy. Just thought you all would want to know.

My name is Gloria and I answer some of the questions that come in to the All Ears website. Obviously there has been a lot of discussion about the new policy change re tickets purchased from outside agencies.

Late last night I received two questions about the new policy and I responded to those questions as best as I could at the time. Apparently my responses (quoted in this thread) have caused some concern about the accuracy of the website.

I apologize if I have caused more confusion about the new policy. My response was my personal response. Below is the "official" reply from the All Ears website. I hope it clears up some of the confusion.

...Last week, after the All Ears Newsletter had been mailed, we became aware of an unannounced change in Disney's policy regarding tickets that were purchased from non-Disney sources. Several guests reported that when they attempted to add a day to their Magic your Way ticket that was purchased from a non-Disney source, they were refused and told that they would have to spend more than $100 for a single day ticket. Several tried at both their resort concierge and at a guest relations window and were told the same thing.

We called the Disney Ticketing office and and spoke to a supervisor. We were told that commencing with last week's price increase "3rd party tickets can no longer be upgraded to passes at a pro-rated rate, have days added, or have options added at a discount." A different call to a second Disney source confirmed it but added that this does not affect AAA.

On the basis of that, we changed our ticket FAQ to reflect the new policy. More refinement of the policy will likely become known as time passes. We will keep watching the situation and listening to our readers' comments about any problems or successes they have had in this area.

Again, I upgraded three 4 day tickets to annual passes and another to a 6 day with no problem. This was Saturday.
