New Ticket Policy Issue

Is there now any advantage to buying tickets thru UT or a similar company?
Well the fact that they still have tickets left that you don’t need to know the exact date you’re going is a big plus in my book. I never know exactly what we are doing and often add to the vacation or change things around. With the new tickets you need to know the exact dates of your trip, which IMO is hard to know 6 or more months in advance. Because if you get it wrong, you are then tasked with finding a CM that can help you straighten it out.

Anyone can now Modify and adjust their own “date-based” tickets.

If a guest chooses to Modify to a higher priced time period, they pay the difference via the MDX account.

If a guest chooses a lesser priced timeframe, they can Modify to those dates but will not receive a refund.

Tickets only need to be linked to an account 60 days prior to a visit to be able to pre-book FPs for an onsite stay.

My problem was that I added a day a week before our vacation. It took 2 CMs to mess it up and 2 to fix it. It's good now but the unfamiliarity with the process certainly created a lot of stress and panic. I think once it becomes the norm, then everyone will know the steps to alter plans, but for now, some of the CMs are as confused as the average guest. That, plus I was changing the older tickets to the new date based tickets by adding 1 day.

ETA: We're here now, and I was thinking about adding another day but decided against it, mostly because of the new system.

Just out of curiosity, why would anyone buy a ticket that they know doesn't fit their needs?
If you know you need a 6 day ticket (for example) why buy 5 and plan on adding a day vs just buying 6 from the start? Seems silly to me to deal with the whole issue vs just getting what you need to begin with.

I recently just called up Disney and added a day to my tickets, that I bought direct from Disney, at no charge.

Maybe I was lucky. I just had to pay the difference of what it was suppossed to be

Then again I did it before I actually used any days

In my case I was at the beach and decided to come on down 3 days early. I’m not an Uber planner. People have a variety of reasons to add days. We decided to come a day early to attend the MNSSHP on Halloween after we made our initial plans. Not silly to me. Fun

I think it's more that people's plans change unexpectedly. For example, we have 5 day tickets right now. We weren't planning to go to a park on our arrival day because we'd only spend 3 or so hours there. But a few weeks before the trip we started looking into what we'd do with that few hours, and we realized we weren't that excited about the things we'd planned on doing. So if we don't have any flight delays, we're going to add a 6th day when we get there and spend that 3 hours in a park.

i'm not sure you meant to be snarky but obviously people are not buying tickets KNOWING that they don't fit their needs. Obviously at some point between the time they bought the ticket and the time they are traveling, their needs/wants changed. Especially when people buy tickets in advance to avoid a price hike. I know in my case I ended up with an early morning flight and wanted to add a day on but then it was halfway to an AP upgrade for the one day because of when I bought the tickets, so I ended up doing that and moving up plans for a later trip to fall within the 1 year instead. There are plenty of reasons for changing your plans for previously unforseen reasons after buying the tickets.

Use of a ticket (or not) before upgrading does not affect the price of the upgrade one way or the other.
As long as the added day is not wanted for use before the original ticket's start-date, and the upgrade is done no later than close-of-business on the same day that the original ticket's last asset was used.
