New Ticket Policy Issue

I bought eight day base tickets before the price increase from Undercover Tourist. I was thinking of adding a day once we arrived since we'll be arriving earlier than expected. How do I find out what the minted day of the ticket is?

You can communicate with the ticket seller and ask.

Otherwise, if you bought your ticket at a time sufficiently after (say, 2-3 months or more) a ticket price increase,
it is very proper to assume that your ticket was minted after that previous ticket price increase.

Example: If you bought a ticket in May of 2017, you can figure that it was a ticket minted after the Feb. 2017 price increase.

The biggest difference IMO is that Disney won't allow you to add on until you arrive. So you book and decide you want to add another couple of days when it's still $10 you can't call and just change it you have to wait until you arrive. Then they change the price on you in the meantime so you are stuck with the new price based on your dates when you booked well in advance under another pricing option. Flights are pretty different and changes in flights should always anticipate fees. If I want to change my car rental and add days I can do that now well ahead of my trip dates. Those things will always cost more at the time of your trip but you can make those changes in advance and avoid the higher prices.
If it's part of a package, you can remove the tickets from your package and buy separate ones.

There are times when buying tickets is required in the package.
And, having tickets connected with your "package" does allow for them to be cancelled (along with your room)
if plans fall through.

Otherwise, however, we have never bought our tickets "along with" our WDW resort room.

People have recently been reporting the ability to make changes/upgrades over the phone by calling Disney Ticketing, if the tickets were purchased directly from Disney.

Personally, I was able to change a 1-day non-MK ticket to a 1-day MK ticket over the phone. Of course, this was before the new structure, as those ticket types don’t exist anymore.

I don't think this is true unless you bought your tickets through someone other than Disney. I called just yesterday to add days on to my tickets (granted, they are Canadian resident tickets so the rules could be slightly different) and it was definitely possible to add on days for our tickets purchased through Disney online. Only problem was it was super expensive since they don't do price bridging and we purchased our tickets 1.5 years ago! :sad1:

I know I have changed the ticket length on my package and as long as I was within the time to modify without a change fee, it was free to do so. I can see if it was a hard ticket though they would have no way to allow changes beforehand without physically possessing the ticket—just like a concert ticket.

If a ticket has been purchased directly from Disney, either hard plastic or eticket, Disney can add on additional ticket entitlements before guests arrive at WDW.

All ticket entitlements are digital and linked to MDX accounts and upgrades can easily be performed. That digital info is accessed by using a MB or the plastic ticket at the park entrance.

We have a package that includes 5 day tickets. We reserved in July for our Nov. trip. We were considering adding an extra day, so I emailed guest services this week to try to find out how the change in pricing structure would affect the cost. The email they sent back made it clear they didn't even read my email, just saw it was about tickets and sent a canned response about how to buy tickets via the website or phone. Very disappointed to hear that it's probably going to be too expensive to bother. I'll try again through chat and will check at the resort when we get there, but since the extra day would be for our arrival evening the time spent trying multiple locations would make it too late to go anyway.

Have a great trip!

Is it still true that if you use a ticket once, regardless UT/Dis/Maple Leaf etc, then it's price bridged already and then it should be brought up to the current price for when you upgrade after the first use?

Nope.

Hmm. Maybe that's the case then. I just know I've been hearing for years that if you buy your tickets in advance and want to add days, PH, etc. you have to wait and see guest services when you arrive (not for packages but tickets bought separately). And we were told the same by Disney the one year we did it, but that was maybe 6 years ago. It doesn't matter now as the prices have changed regardless but it's a shame for anyone who bought tickets thinking they would save if they are adding on now.

What happens if you purchased tickets from UT under the old rules, but want to add a day when the price under the new rules would be lower? (Apparently, some dates for the new are less expensive than the anytime tickets purchased before the change.)

Example: 9 day changed to 10 day with the lowest price/day of the year as start day. Could the difference in $$ result in a refund or no cost to upgrade?
Or, for that matter, are you able to change "old rules" tickets to the new for the same # of days and get a refund of the difference in cost?

There is no refund if you want tickets at a lower-cost time of year. That's whether you have "old rules" tickets or the new date-specific tickets.

I don't think anyone yet has tried to upgrade or add a day to tickets that would be less expensive. The reports I've seen about less expensive tickets report a savings of just a few dollars. So unless your new dates are truly that much less expensive, I expect there to be at least a small charge to add a day.

Enjoy your vacation!

So in other words no matter what you have to pay the difference between what you paid and the new price for the upgraded ticket? Is there a difference if it's been used once or not?

1. No. But, that is not what you asked.

2. THAT is what you asked and my answer is still no.
It does not make a difference in the upgrade transaction if a ticket has been "used once" or not.

Otherwise...
There certainly CAN be a difference between what you PAID for the ticket and what value you will get for that ticket in the upgrade transaction.

See Post #6 (HERE) in this thread to figure your cost for upgrading the kind of ticket that you have. Please read the options very carefully to make the correct choice.

Now everything is so confusing. At least it's unlikely that we'll do this

Is there now any advantage to buying tickets thru UT or a similar company?

Is there now any advantage to buying tickets thru UT or a similar company?
Yes because they are the source of discounted tickets. Disney only offers specific ticket discounts through the resellers.

As long as a person knows exactly what they need in terms of the number of ticket entitlements, their discount remains intact even when they upgrade to an AP.

OP, if you think the CM is not calculating the cost correctly, you may want to try again with a different CM. Per mousesavers:

You may find that a cast member will insist that the information we give here is all wrong. Our advice is not to argue. You can ask nicely if there’s a supervisor there who can help you understand it better, and sometimes that will help. If not, you can either accept what they’re offering or politely decline to do the upgrade and take the ticket to another Guest Services location or ticket window, where you may get a better answer.

I found this mousesavers summary about ticket changes helpful.
