New theater comes to Walt Disney World

They already updated this to say they think it will be a new building and not a redo of town square theatre--

Maybe it will have rotating shows like the one at DHS.... or blue man group.....
I think they're going to have a Tron show. :p

As much as I enjoy having unique stuff in each park, I definitely wouldn't be upset if they brought a version of Mickey and the Magical Map to Florida... it may be my favorite thing in Disneyland.

This forces them to address backstage facades and provides that permanent entrance/exit off of main street.
That entire bypass area has already been made show appropriate. Unless some operational changes are made, and as it is currently, the bypass can't be open all day because delivery trucks, CM shuttle buses, CMs and characters use the bypass throughout the day. Even the Disney Events Group uses that area as an event venue.

So what are the chances all the construction starts on these projects this year?

The selfish part of me was looking forward to going at the end of October with barely any construction going on outside of DHS, at least compared back to when we went in 2014.

Now I'm afraid our photo theme will again be "walls". :rotfl:

I wonder if the addition of this theater along the "bypass" route will mean that the entire bypass will be themed! That would be lovely and help to keep you immersed in the magic even on busier days.

Not sure how accurate, but this site listed it as the Town Square Theater getting a new look.

I'm sure Mickey & Tinker Bell can go in another location, but I liked the old one.

Hopefully new one will be cool. Too bad they couldn't put it somewhere else!
Incorrect, and I talked to Tom about it. Town Square Theater is staying as is. This will go by the bypass. Disney is killing two birds with one stone here. More capacity and a much needed theater venue.

Well all of these projects will be completed by the 50th so they have 3.5-4 years to get it done.

As much as I love Mickey and the Magical Map, I have higher expectations for this theater. I'm hoping for something more like they show at the Hyperion with changing sets.

We already have the walls for Toy Story and Star Wars.
The MK theater seems to be behind Main Street (no more walls)
Most of Tron is behind the railroad tracks (so walls could be out of the way ... unless there's is also a major Speedway rebuild.
"Rat" is said to be behind current France.
Energy is only an area you walk to for that ride
The announced major changes may not be that bad.

That's a relief! Would be awesome if they expand Main St, and have more beautiful buildings.

The shuttle buses can easily be relocated. That route is only for the convenience of technical & management personnel, and is lightly used. They'll just have to walk in thru the tunnel, like all the other cm's.

Deliveries can also be relocated to the main tunnel entrance. They might keep a corridor open on the south side to service Tony's and events, which is above Tony's.

The biggest user of that area is outdoor food vending, on the north side, so they would probably be relocated as well.

Yep this will be exactly along the line of the Hyperion and apparently they are looking at something other than Frozen to go into this theater.

This would be fantastic for WDW, I just hope it isn't Frozen. I also hope that the seats are as comfortable as The Hyperion, I made the mistake of seeing the Nemo show, followed by ROL, and I could hardly move after, those bench style seats are so uncomfortable.

All true, and as I said, some operational changes would have to be made, including some of mine.

A reliable source has confirmed that it is going here:

That's too bad.

It seems to make sense though and it was actually where I figured. But I hoped that it would go opposite Tony's, in the town hall area. I really wanted and hoped Tomorrowland would eventually expand into this location instead.

If they create several blocks & intersections with this addition for Main St., that will just be incredible.

Let's all hope.

I would love some new facades along the "soon not to be bypass"! That would be incredible although I do doubt it

I think this is fantastic news. It became apparent that they needed to modify the backstage area to accommodate the exit traffic. Why not take advantage and move it forward. I think that reengineering the off stage areas isn't that complicated. It's a reasonable and welcome expansion of MK in my opinion. Plus shows eat up a lot of traffic.
