New Stimulus and college students

I ended up not just handing over the money but I told them the money is theirs next time they need it in the next year or 2 or whenever for a large purchase, ie new computer or a car (youngest 2 are currently in the dorm and do not have cars), or I told them they could start an IRA with it. I told them I hope they picked the last option, but I have not heard back from any of them. Oldest DD was on our taxes last year so we also got her money. She graduated last year and is off living on her own so could probably use the money but I gave her the same options. She is currently driving the car they all shared in high school, it is 15 years old. I told her if DS needed it this summer she would need to buy her own car.

Also raising my hand as a "mean mom" who won't be giving the stimulus money to the kiddos. Paid for a car for the youngest and for a myriad of things for the oldest in college. Neither asked because my mean mom status is well known. :rotfl2:

My preferred title is "Evil Mom" :)

I was once grocery shopping with DD when she was little, and we were in the cereal isle. DD grabbed a super-sugary cereal and started begging for it. I just looked at her and asked "Who does the grocery shopping?" Her reply (kicking the ground with her feet, putting the cereal back on the shelf): "Evil Mom...."

Another shopper next to us in the isle couldn't stop laughing :rolleyes1

My partner is planning to set up savings accounts for the kids but not tell them right away. When they ask her for money, as they often do for dining out or a cool pair of sneakers they saw, she'll be pulling it out of those accounts instead of her own.

My 21 year old will be getting hers. She had a summer job that got cancelled last year, so she was not able to earn anything. She's good about using that money for school supplies and random expenses, so it really is going to her, but in the end it's allowing her to "pay" for some things instead of me.
