1000% agree with you. If I didn't see reports of the helicopters flying over the locations I would've guessed it was all fake. I really don't like the CGI animals and the transitions. A shame cause the sound and video is much better. In my opinion, worse. It's all fake. Some entire locations are all digital, and to me it's super obvious and takes me out of the ride. The world is full of enough marvelous sights that disney didn't have to fake it.
As a Floridian, I didn't love a ride celebrating CA being imposed on my state. Most people probably didn't care that much. I enjoyed the detail in the photography in the reboot. They got so close to the Pyramids I could really experience the textures! There seemed to be a need to "startle" the viewer at the end of each scene-- like sand blowing from the desert at the end of the pyramid scene. I found it jarring, unnecessary. I think the transitions were better in the original.
I think the original may be gone for good. Each resort's Soarin has a unique ending-- Epcot's ends in Epcot, DLR's ends in DLR, Shanghai's ends in Shanghai. So I see no need to bring the original back. Maybe I'm wrong.
If faking it is a crime then lock me up.The world is full of enough marvelous sights that disney didn't have to fake it.
I have to guess that you have been to the Taj Mahal. I haven't but it doesn't look faked to me. Others have said it was, but, I'm not sure how they know. Sure, the whale didn't just happen to jump up and splash the camera anymore then that golf ball with Mikey's picture on it was actually hit by somebody as it flew overhead. It seems to me that they got a lot of criticism about how the old one had no transition, it just went from one scene to another. Now we don't like the fake transition. I agree that it would be cool if they could have trained that elephant to throw up all that dust toward us, but, it seems like a bit much to ask for. It's one thing or the other folks. The Mickey fireworks explosion is just as real as the original. China paid for most of that film and I see no reason for them to fake the Great Wall. The Polar Bears in the glacier scene was fake, but, done very well and very realistically. The fake stuff took away from the beautiful scenes some. I think the Taj Mahal scene was entirely fake. Overall I liked it about the same as the old one but prefer the old movie if they could have just cleaned up the film. I do wish they would correct the camera angle so the images would not bend. Other than that I can live with it I guess. We did get to go on the new theater C.
I would think that three times in one week should be enough for anybody. You know the old saying.... to much of a good thing.I like the new one, but I agree there are too many Computer generated scenes. I saw it three times last week, and that was plenty. Did not wish to see it again.
