New Ship Teaser Announcement

We did the MV of the Magic and they pulled reservations for that sailing from a lottery.

I guess for the Magic MV, there really wasn't a concept of Gold, Platinum, etc. A lottery seems like a fair way to approach MVs (for those that want to put up with bumps along the way). I wonder how they'll give any advantage to Platinum (and perhaps Gold) members. Maybe two or three ping pong balls in the lottery drum?

Also, that is interesting about the dates being unknown. If they moved the cruise date to a date that you weren't available, and assuming you won the lottery, were you entitled to a full refund on the deposit?

What is the benefit of the hump rooms? Are they bigger, or just further out for a view? I do wonder if they would cause people to see into other cabins on the sides though
On the RCCL ships with a bump out, the extra bump space is a larger balcony. But they could design this any way they want. These could be concierge 1 bdrms or a new type of suite or a regular suite but with more insides in the space in the middle or even (gah!) an indoor atrium with inside rooms that have verandahs overlooking the atrium.

My husband and I were discussing the next new ship at dinner. We have been planning on taking a cruuse on her in summer 2021 for our son's graduation. We have only cruised 7 days or longer and I was just assuming that this new ship would sort of take the Fantasy's spot and free her up for more Southern Car. cruises...My husband asked if I thought it was going to do short cuises like the Dream since she was the first of the last new ships. Nooo, say it ain't so! Hard to imagine waiting all this time only to celebrate with a short cruise. I know, we could do back to back, but it's just not the same.

Does anybody have thoughts on if you think it will be shorter or longer cruises. Hmm, have to wait and see.

Yes we could cancel. For those of us to who decided to continue we were compensated both times by Disney for the delays. We had flights that had to be moved two different times and other life issues that had to be rearranged a few times to accommodate the delays. Disney came through with discounts off the cruise fare and they paid for all our flight change fees. I don't remember if it was easy or difficult to book the MV of the Dream as our TA handled it.

And yes, there was no Castaway Club in the beginning. That came later.

The merchandise is usually available up to a year after the Maiden

We sailed our first ever DCL on the Dream Feb 27th 2011 (about a month after the maiden) and the only merchandise I remember seeing said 'Inaugural Voyages' not maiden (I bought a Dooney otherwise I would probably never remember the verbage!). Hopefully they do something special for just the very first one! :)

That must be it (I also have a Dooney...that’s how I know.

Was there a lottery system for the Dream MV as well?
For both the Dream and the Fantasy maiden voyages, there was no lottery, we just called and booked them (was on both) and no, we weren't Platinum.

As for the merchandise, there were two types, stuff that said Maiden Voyage, and stuff that said Inagural Voyages. Some of the Maiden Voyage stuff was pre-order only, and some was first come, first grab on the ship, which made for chaotic scenes in the store when they would put stuff out.

Hey!... I like the MSC Seaside...

I've honestly never paid enough attention to MSC to even know what their ships look like. But plenty of other lines seem to be embracing the floating apartment block look (RCCL, Carnival, NCL...) I love that Disney is sticking with the more classic ship look.

I like the look of the new ship. It seems sleeker. Even the life boats are more "tucked in". I'm thinking they are going for some fuel efficiency here, but I'm also thinking they will use one of these new ships for more frequent Trans Atlantic sailings. It just looks more like it could handle it better.

Nobody seemed to comment much on the text that was shared, which is similar to what was shared in the past. I'm really interested to hear what they have in store for those "immersive" experiences and the "technological advances" that are referred to here. They dabbled in it some with the mid-ship detective agency and we know what they do today with Animators Palate. Where will they go next?

I expect something unique with the bump out rooms. Those rooms will be larger. Depending on how severe they make the curve, some of the rooms around them may have a limited view, unless you count the view of the neighbors balcony as part of your view. If you have a room out on the apex of the hump, you get a truly unique experience, and that will come at a premium price.

A number of folks talked about the AquaDuck. I'm guessing it will be something a bit different. Still a water coaster, but if they just made a different version, I'd be surprised. I'm also guessing they'll use the extra space in the rear for more specialty restaurants and they may even expand the spa and fitness area. Restaurants and Spa are all revenue generating. They'll use that premium aft window space for more money.

What I really hope though is that the fix the pool. I mean, it really needs to be a LOT bigger.

Looking at the changes to the forward section, my guess is that the spa will be moved to the enclosed area above Palo/Remy and the concierge rooms expanded to include all of 11 and 12. The concierge lounge could be the enclosed forward section above the bridge and below the royal suites. This will give the lounge a really nice view.

I would expect the first ship to take the place of the Dream with the 3 and 4 night itineraries. Those are the cruises that usually attract new cruisers and they are more profitable overall.

Probably the first new ship will take the place of the dream doing the shorter cruises. More money in Disney’s pocket. Plus it gives more people a chance to try out the new ships. A lot of new people to DCL. Disney is going to have to attract a lot of new customers. They have started with allowing dvc members to book the same day as silver. But they need a whole lot more.
One way is to slash prices but we all know disney doesn’t want to do this. Disney has other plans to attract new business we will see it coming. More commercials of course being one. Maybe have DCL desks at the parks and Disney springs where guests can learn about DCL and book right there on the spot. Of course these all cost money to run. Disney is the king of getting $$$$$$ our of peoples pocket.
So it comes back as the new ship will take the place of the dream.

We've stayed in the bump out rooms on the Dream. Essentially, you get a MUCH bigger balcony. Probably 2-3x the size. You CAN look forward better, depending on your position in the bump out. Though you may have to lean out over the balcony rail to do so. Otherwise, it's just nice to have the larger balcony space if you just want to hang out by yourself!!!

But those rooms aren't on the side, are they? i don't remember the sides of the ship bowing out :confused3

Doesn’t Disney have some sort of requirement for Port Canaveral (like the new ships have to be homed there for x amount of time?)
