New Ship Teaser Announcement

Doesn’t Disney have some sort of requirement for Port Canaveral (like the new ships have to be homed there for x amount of time?)
I don’t believe any such agreement has been signed with the port yet for the new ships. But this was the agreement they made in exchange for the port making required updates and upgrades in preparation for the dream class. There are plans for some major changes to the terminal facility and dock in the next couple years.

Interesting, do you have any details? Moving the place where Disney docks? Making it bigger with shops? Perhaps a way to accommodate two ships at one time?

Plans are not entirely finalized. The dock could be moving slightly and realigned. Terminal enlarged. Second garage constructed.

What would be the benefit of a realignment? More than one ship or perhaps 2 ways to enter each ship? Maybe they could offer two departures from the same dock?

And as to garage, so a place to park your car while sailing from the port?

What benefits would a larger terminal offer or has it not been updated since the larger dream and fantasy ships arrived to accommodate the crowds?

I figured out what those extra floors are on the forward and aft, dvc rooms, only $300pp , lol

Hate when I walk in late on a joke and have to ask “What are we lol-ing about” what’s $300pp?

PP is dvc slang for per point, so $300 per point would be the cost of the dvc points for the timeshare part of the boat. It was a total joke though, almost zero chance that happens, but they are always looking for new places to build resorts.

Ahhh, now I’m smiling! My husband has 2 timeshares, I get it now. :rotfl2:

Of note, earlier posts posited whether these ships or the Dream class could navigate the Alaskan waters and whether they could transit the panama canal.

For Alaska, that's an easy 'yes'. Those waters are easily navigable and 135,000 tons, while large, is still smaller than the super tankers that regularly ply those waters.

The Panama Canal is different. I'm unsure of Dream's dimensions, but the PC super-PANAMAX (3rd lock) can handle a vessel of approximately 120,000 tons displacement. The truly important issue is the beam, draft and height as well as length in order to fit in the locks. Displacement isn't always a direct correlation from dimension. If I remember correctly, super-PANAMAX can accommodate ships 1200 feet long, 160 feet in breadth with a 50 foot draft. Yes, the Bridge of the America's will limit your height (190 feet I think).

Just looked it up for Dream:
Length: 1114 feet
Beam: 137 feet
Draft: 27 feet
Height: 217 feet (ouch!!!)

So the as discussed the dream class is too tall to fit under the bridge of the americas, these don’t appear to be any shorter and will likely not fit either. Don’t rule out one of the 5 larger (my guess would be dream class) ships working Alaska and just remaining in the pacific year round. Alaska is $$$ for Disney and you could even see them send 2 ships there I think.

So if a different route then Panama Canal was taken in order to miss the bridge of Americas there would be no reason the newer ships or the incoming ships wouldn’t be able to go through Alaska? Are there ports or in-ways that would be restricted by larger ships?

Nope, Norwegian is building a ship that size to visit Alaska, but they are building it short enough to fit under the Bridge of the Americas I believe.

If they took the ship around the Cape that would be quite the cruise.

If they move one of the Dream class ships over to the west coast, it could not sail out of Vancouver since the Lions Gate bridge has a clearance of around 200 feet. So, perhaps they will sail to Alaska out of Seattle? The Port of Vancouver is talking about building a new cruise terminal that will be able to accommodate the larger / taller ships.

Are there not enough ports to visit that direction? Every one loves a few days at sea right?
I'm sure there would be some amazing ports they could visit. It would be quite a long journey though all the way around South America and up the west coast of North America. Lots of sea days I would imagine too. I don't think it's very realistic, but it would be amazing!

Well it only has to happen once right? Some one must have some parking spots for one of our ships to keep them busy year round. Can’t the inspection and or dry dock be handled there? How often would it have to visit CC? Would it be a problem to say it’s Home dock sails from Mexico or Canada? I don’t remember why Bahamas is a help to us, but I know it is. I think the US is too expensive?????

The lions gate is a problem as one of the potential iteneraries during the shoulder season (before and after Alaska) would be one ways back and forth from Vancouver to Hawaii. Going to Hawaii from he US is complicated. I know you have to visit a foreign port, not sure if it has to be closed loop or if you can do one ways.

The Bliss is 20 decks tall. How are they making it shorter? Will you have to crawl around on the floor to get anywhere?

I looked into this... The Bliss will be departing from Seattle. Not Vancouver.

I think the Bridge of the Americas is the one over the Panama Canal. So will the Bliss be going all the way around South America to repo?
