New Ship Teaser Announcement

Seems like a combo between the older Disney ships and the newer ones.

I wonder if that enclosed space in the front might be an observation lounge similar to NCL's Bliss.

Another thing to note is this says the ship will be 140,000 tons opposed the 135,000 tons they were previously saying.

To be fair, they had said "about 135,000" meaning it could be more or could be less. When you're talking that huge, an extra 5000 tons is not THAT big of a difference.

Looks like an updated version of the Dream and Fantasy. I like it!

Can’t wait to see more details. Already ready to throw my money at DCL for the maiden voyage.
Yes us too! I hope they let platinum book first so we have a shot at being on the MV. I’ve never done one of those before. I hear they can be chaotic bc the staff is new and bugs have to be worked out. I just want the merchandise for it. So excited!

The merchandise is usually available up to a year after the Maiden

I'm guessing you'll need to be Platinum to book the maiden voyage. Given that they announce cruises about 15-18 months before the sail date, a 2021 sailing will probably be announced sometime in 2020. Sadly, I don't think I'll make Platinum by then...unless we do a few 2-nighters out of San Diego. :-)

We did the MV of the Magic and they pulled reservations for that sailing from a lottery. At least a year (maybe even more) in advance they asked for a deposit and we did not know if we would be picked until later. We were and it was awesome (it was my first ever cruise on any line so I didn't have anything to compare it to). I was hooked on DCL. Yes, there were some miss steps along the way. We were delayed twice...we were originally supposed to sail in March, then it moved to May and then to July 30, 1998.

We were also on the MV of the Dream and we enjoyed that as well. Again, some service issues but we rolled with it. Part of me wants to experience the MV of the newer ships and part of me wants to wait. I guess I will have to see the prices :badpc:

Was there a lottery system for the Dream MV as well?

My take on the differences, there is one extra deck forward, I believe the extended verandas have been removed as you can see the small rescue vessel is one deck up on the new ship and the cutout is removed from deck 4. I do not believe there is an extra deck aft just deck 11 aft moves to the edge rather than having a walkway around. My guess is the adult pool area will move to the top of the ship freeing 11 & 12 forward to go further back and eliminating the children walking through the adult area issue from the dream class. Also I wouldn't be surprised if the AquaDuck is running backwards on the new ships as there is a drop showing on the starboard side of the new ship that has the forward side higher than the aft.

“Hump cabins” are super popular on other lines that have them. I have never considered them because I love the motion of being forward, but many people swear by them.

What is the benefit of the hump rooms? Are they bigger, or just further out for a view? I do wonder if they would cause people to see into other cabins on the sides though

Hey hey, maybe THEN I can finally take advantage of my platinum status :rotfl:

I saw that too and wondered if maybe, just maybe there might be some sort of discount to the affected rooms because of the "intimate" views.

Also, your view from those rooms is blocked from looking forward or having a full view of the ocean.

Do you really think the MV would fill up that fast? I sure hope not. I won't even be gold by then.

I think everyone better start saving now -- imagine the prices of just regular cruises in three years, never mind a maiden voyage!

Buying a Super Bowl shirt after the Super Bowl isn't as special as buying the shirt at the game.

We sailed the maiden voyage year of the Dream, so the merchandise was still special for me -- but it might not be to others.

I have no idea. I have never stayed in one or had a desire to. I like being as far forward as I can get and they are usually midship.

I wish I could stay forward as they are cheaper rates, but the one time I tried I got horribly seasick from the motion.

I agree. Nothing really new. My guess is that they want the news regarding the addition of 3 new ships to stay relevant. It's been about 7-8 months since the announcement of 3 ships (rather than 2) at D23. With 3 years to go before the first scheduled sailing, it's a long gap. This way, they generate some buzz, which tides them over. My guess we'll get one more non-announcement at some point late 2018, leading up to a bunch of new details at the 2019 D23 Expo.

I think you are spot-on in your guess. But still - they had nothing better in their holster to use other than this one render? I understand that they have to pace themselves with releasing details, but jeez.

Welcome to the way Celebrity rolled out and is still rolling out information about the Edge.

Of note, earlier posts posited whether these ships or the Dream class could navigate the Alaskan waters and whether they could transit the panama canal.

For Alaska, that's an easy 'yes'. Those waters are easily navigable and 135,000 tons, while large, is still smaller than the super tankers that regularly ply those waters.

The Panama Canal is different. I'm unsure of Dream's dimensions, but the PC super-PANAMAX (3rd lock) can handle a vessel of approximately 120,000 tons displacement. The truly important issue is the beam, draft and height as well as length in order to fit in the locks. Displacement isn't always a direct correlation from dimension. If I remember correctly, super-PANAMAX can accommodate ships 1200 feet long, 160 feet in breadth with a 50 foot draft. Yes, the Bridge of the America's will limit your height (190 feet I think).

Just looked it up for Dream:
Length: 1114 feet
Beam: 137 feet
Draft: 27 feet
Height: 217 feet (ouch!!!)
