***** New September 2013 Thread *****

Mickey Mail arrived two days ago but it just now sunk in!! MNSSHP tickets came a few weeks ago and we've had our park hoppers for a while now. Just need to make the last payment on the room (plus not lose any of this) and we're set! :cool1: 27 days!

So....can someone tell me why going in September 2014 would be a good idea? I'm on for February tentatively, but come September 14', we'll have two days off school for Rosh Hashanah, so it'll only be 2 days out of school that first month of 2nd grade...

My main concern is that it's the first month of second grade, where they'll be setting the tone for the year to come. Also, the risk of being hit by a hurricane and dampening our plans...the heat is also a factor here...how BAD is it in September?

Last minute trip! My son and I are taking advantage of the opportunity to join my husband on business. We have had a really hard year and my son is recovering from two major surgeries. He was unable to return to college this fall while he regains his strength and continues his recovery. I am considering it a part of his healing! He needs something to look forward to. With all of his friends returning to school, things around here were sad. I had my first trip to Disney in 1977! I returned in 2010 when both of my sons were in High School on a school band trip and I was a chaperone. We returned in 2011 and only spent one day, my husband and older son wanted to spend more time at Universal.
I am learning so much on this forum. Thank you for all of the advice and tips! I wanted to share our story, our trip will be a much slower pace than many, but like I said, it will be a wonderful place to smile and heal. Now I just need to learn all of the abbreviations, fix my signature and get and some life into my posts!

26 Days!

This is going to be our first (and possibly only) trip with my inlaws. They have never been! I love planning trips for peoples first visit & this time I get to be the guide as well...It does add a bit of pressure though. I know how to plan so that DH, DD, & myself have a good time, but getting a feel for how new people will best enjoy themselves is harder.

At any rate, we haven't taken a week long Disney Vacay in 2 years, so I'm beyond excited.:woohoo:

Welcome aboard! The DISboards are a great place to find all kinds of great information. Before finding them I called myself a Disney geek. Nope! :lmao:

Disney is definitely a wonderful place to heal. :thumbsup2 My Dad had emergency surgery two/three weeks before our family trip this past February. He kept saying not to cancel because looking forward to Disney was keeping him motivated to heal faster. He may have slowed us down a little but we still did so many things and saw others we never would have if we were rushing about. I hope you have a great time!

OMG!!! I JUST REALIZED WE ARE IN THE SINGLE DIGITS!!!! EEK! SO EXCITED, AND MY SWEET DAUGHTER STILL DOES NOT KNOW!!!

Is anyone else worried about the weather for the upcoming 2 weeks or so? We are leaving in 9 days and I am starting to worry that it will be very wet weather throughout most of the day!:sad2:

What a wonderful thing for your son to look forward to! I hope you have a wonderful trip. Sometimes those slower trips are the most magical because you have a chance to really "stop and smell the roses" and notice all of the small, magical details that make Disney such a wonderful place.

I wouldn't be too worried about the weather, for a couple of reasons. First of all, there isn't a darn thing you can do about it, except prepare as well as you can and just accept it and make the best of it. Second, crowds may well be even lower in the parks if it's raining.

One of the short weekend trips I did with my daughter was absolutely the worst rain I've ever seen. We went with her cross country team to run in a cross country meet at Wide World of Sports. It was the WORST rain we have ever been in -- it literally rained continuously for 48 hours...absolutely pounding, driving rain. Standing puddles over our ankles. It was a mess. But you know what? We had a great time. There was hardly anyone in the park the day that we took the team to the park, and we all just put on ponchos and grabbed umbrellas and went at it. The kids had a blast!

It has rained at least some on every trip I've ever taken to WDW. We just make the best of it and enjoy it. :-)

27 days out and I'm very happy.

After what seems like ages of stalking the internet for Cali Grill reservations to open up I'm pleased to say we got one on the day we wanted. That was our last remaining ressie to book.

Sorted out photopass+ this week too. All that's left is to buy MNSSHP tickets when we next get paid.

Cannot believe how quickly time is flying by.

Also, I'm not too worried about the weather. Back in 2011 it rained all weekend. We went to the Magic Kingdom and had a great time. No long lines for anything, grab a poncho and go for it. :goodvibes

tomorrow, is 3 weeks until we leave for Detroit airport, staying overnight, so that means it's almost trip time!!

Please post pics of the new California Grill! Very interested in the changes.

I am excited to be returning to WDW from 9/21-9/29. Our kids are grown, so it's just me and DW. We enjoy the beautiful grounds, the pools, the hot tub, and just walking around to see everything. It's a nice escape from the "real world".

I work a "real job", then hustle over to a small airport where I own a small flight school, where I work every evening and weekend (I am there right now!). It totals 12+ hours/day, 7 days/week. So I really look forward to an occasional vacation!

We visited WDW in January with our exchange student from Nigeria, but I was pretty sick much of the time. We are taking this next trip as our 20th anniversary. We are staying at POR with free dining and we used credit card points to get free airline tickets! Overall it's not too expensive. We have 5 day park passes, so we will explore on the arrival and departure days along with two more.

A few more thoughts:

- We don't get Park Hopper tickets, because it takes too much time and effort to leave one park and go to another. YMMV!
- I really like DME, so I don't have to rent a car, or drive, or find the way, or pay tolls, or pay for gas, or pay for parking. One time we rented a car, but our return flight was cancelled due to weather. We contacted the rental car agency to extend. They said sure... and we found out why. They charged us more for that extra day than we had paid for the week! Buyer beware! Never again! DME saves a lot of money, making the POR stay (with free dining) comparable in cost to off-site.
- To avoid crowds we are not using EMH or visiting Epcot during F&W - maybe a bad idea?
- We have made all our ADRs and FP+. I'm looking forward to some nice food, as my busy work life usually precludes that.
- We have already received our Magic Bands, but I don't see what the big deal is... same thing as the KTTW cards but worn on the wrist which will get sweaty and annoying!
- With our extra non-park days I want to swim, explore, visit DTD, Boardwalk, and maybe try the mini golf. Other ideas?

23 days and we will be on the plane! Going 23rd - 28th and staying at POR. There are six of us guys going to celebrate my 40th birthday! This trip has already proven to be a trip of a lifetime and we haven't even left yet. Yesterday we got our Magic Bands in the mail. How exciting is that??? I'm super excited because this will be the first time returning to the WDW since 1993 when I was a CM. Perhaps you can figure it out from my screen name? I'm so excited to see the changes that have been made in the last 20 years. So, if you see 6 guys having WAY to much fun....thats us! Say hello, come dance with us, be in our vacation video!

We will also be going to MNSSHP (I think thats right) on Tuesday night 24th. Any costume ideas?
