....sad bear......... DH just told me that he didnt get his requested vacation dates. He ALWAYS get his dates.....dont know what happened. But I HAVE to take the last week in August - as always - because the cubs summer camp doesnt offer camp that week, period. So, for the last many years we've used that week - and sometimes the one before for vacation. So, they gave Dh vacation that ENDS at the beginning of the 2 weeks I am going to take.



Soooo.....guess no trip for us. Funny too - free dining was annouced today and I spent my lunch break coming up w/ the perfect plan - even cheap flights! (Thank goodness I waited to actually book it.)

Oh well...... Really, it will be good to save the money and I know many many folks wont be taking vacations this year. Just was really hopeful - it was a looong winter.

Well, tomorrow's Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I might end up taking the cubs somewhere alone for part of it - it just wouldnt be the same w/out Papa Bear. (It's funny, since he works weekends we are VERY usedf to doing most things w/out him and are quite used to it. but, vacation....just seems like he should be there....)

Morning peeps! LizzY has chosen her college. Sshe was absolutely in love with a very good private university and had been offered a 25,000 scholarship. However that still left a bill of 25,000 more for Freshman year alone! She got scholarship's most everywhere she applied. Well she narrowed her choices down to the private school or one SUNY (State University of New York) that gave her a full tuition scholarship, leaving just room and board to pay of about $10,000 a year. We went to visit the SUNY Wednesday and Thursday. SHe met with the honors program director and assistant director (who were incredible and totally laid back), had an interview with admissions and took a campus tour. We also walked around by ourselves for about an hour between her appointments to get a feel for the place. I figured we'd leave and she'd take a week or 2 to make her final decision. But as we were getting ready to go she asked if we could go to the bookstore to buy a college sweatshirt for her and stuff for the whole family with the school's name on it! She was very comfortable at the school, said she thought she would be very happy there!She really liked the other school too, but said that the SUNY seemed just as good, or better, academically than the private and she could not see any reason to go 80,000 to 100,000 into debt to get the private education degree!

The SUNY really did seem like a comfortable fit for her when we were visiting. Everyone was so incredibly nice, from the staff and faculty, to the students and the people in the town. A really nice experience! So she will attend SUNY Oswego, which is right on Lake Ontario. Really it is on the shore. Dorms are on the lakefront. The school owns a mile of lakefront on Lake Ontario. The only thing we did not like was there is a power plant next to the school with some unattractive smokestacks (steam). But it turns out on campus, you really can't see them from many places....and our tourguide said that the stacks had been named "Huey, Duey and Louey"...she took that as a sign that this is where she was meant to be!

I am soooo excited for her...she is so happy with her choice and I think relieved to have made her final decision. She is already thinking about all the possibilities for her honors thesis that she will write in her Senior year! She can chose to write about anything at all that interests her! We met a student there who is graduating and is in the animation program. SHe did her thesis on buddies in animation and in the honors office they have a huge work of art that she did featuring Timon and Pummba as part of her thesis!

PD I'm in tears here. I am so Proud of my LizzY Our first Limey to go off to school. She must be so excited. Plus I want a picture of my LizzY in her new "wear" She will have so much fun. Plus I also take the nicknames of the smoke stacks as a sign as well. If she isn't going to the university of disney this must be the top runner up! Give her big hugs from me!

PD: I had a friend that went to suny oswego she loved it. tell lizzy congratz. suny schools are great schools. my little sis is going to a suny school.

PD, tell Lizzy congrats and that I think she made a wise decision. As someone who spent the morning at the bank with DS, moving money around for tuition and such, I think public universities are a fabulous value. I also think they frequently offer a better education, because you have students who work hard to learn, rather than feeling they should be handed an education because mommy and daddy paid for it.
