New S.W. Rapid Rewards CC Offer

S.W. has new cc offer today promoting the new system. Get 20,000 points when you sign up and 3,000 points on your anniversary every year. Also when you go to look up a flight to book, it tells you how many points it will cost. Airfare is out of control. Our flights went up another $5 each way to $144 one way. Ouch!!!

I can't figure out which offer is better, the old one with the 2 free tickets or this new one.

I was surprised to see them offering points balance transfers. (too bad I finally paid off all the CC, lol)

The 3000 points per year seems good, and this would encourage more people to keep and use the card, vs, cancelling after getting the free tickets.

Well, here's how I look at it.

The new RR Visa:
20,000pts = $333.33 WGA fare
3,000 pts on anniversary = $50.00 WGA fare
Annual fee = $69

The new RR Premier Visa:
30,000 pts = $500.00 WGA fare
6,000 pts on anniversary = $100 WGA fare
Annual fee = $99

At least with the Premier Visa, the anniversary point bonus offsets the annual fee. The other new Visa is a joke.

The 2 free flight offer is probably the best given the current rise in airfares from oil instability (good grief, I'm so tired of our economy hinging on our oil dependence, and I say that knowing I too am an oil consumer...I just wish we had other realistic options). That is, as long as there are flights available for RR 1.0 standard awards. Who knows what SW will do???
