I know there are some Disney race fans on the boards...

Anyone else disappointed by the announcement of the new Disneyland Tinker Bell Half Marathon? After SO much build up, the weeks and weeks of clues...I think it was almost mean for them to announce a women's only race.
I think both sexes have equal ability to shell out exorbitant race fees and fun a really fun race.

I vote for a name change to the Never Neverland Race for Tinker Bell and the Lost Boys! Let's let the boys play, too!

Thoughts?

i totally agree! Though the idea of another DL race is awesome....kinda disappointed it is women only....

Sharing my uncensored feelings on this announcement would get me banned but would probably prove entertaining.

I was hoping for something in WDW, and something a little more unique. At first glance this seems like a west coast Princess half. More women-themed running?? Strange.

Two huge failures, for me.

- the date. Why in the world would they schedule a race right between marathon weekend and Princess weekend? This has got to be aimed exclusively at west coast runners. Nobody can take that much time off work in the first eight weeks of the year.

- the theme. MEN LIKE RUNNING, TOO. I would much rather run something like a Peter Pan race than a Tinkerbell race. Then, we could have lost boys, Captain Hooks, Peters, Tinkerbells, runners in pajamas, etc. (Neverland is a good idea for a name, but it's a little too Michael Jackson for me.)

Just like I think adding a Pirate half to the Sunday of Princess weekend (with the half on Saturday) would have made that weekend more inclusive all they would have to do is add a Peter Pan (or Capt. Hook) half to the Sunday of Tinkerbell weekend. Heck, they would probably not only get double the participants but there are people who would run both races on either weekend.

Epic fail.

FireDancer, you and MouseSkywalker were among the first people I thought of when I saw the announcement!

I think it is great that more women are interested in racing -- I'm one of them! -- and the 1/2 marathon is a great distance. But I don't need to be surrounded by women and have everything covered in glitter to get excited about a race.

There are plenty of Disney races to pick from, so it isn't the end of the world...it just seemed like runDisney missed the mark on this one.

roomthreeseventeen -- I agree on the Neverland thing! I felt the same thing when I typed it, so I threw in the extra "Never"...but probably will always have that MJ connection.

I mainly disappointed in the date. I don't understand why they thought that weekend was the right time for a race.

I guess I don't understand why males are excluded from getting awards? :confused3

What if the guy wore a skirt? Waved a Tinkerbell wand?
Then could he run?

So wait....is this the announcement of race that they were sending out all the clues for? And it's a women's only race???? Seriously?

Yep. Someone inside run Disney must think that external genitals are at fault for all the is wrong in the world.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but men can run they just don't get a medal at the finish line which seems very odd to me.

I don't do the races, but I was kinda of following everyone working on the clues. I can't believe after all that the dates aren't great and it's only for women. Disney is really working hard at becoming the leader in disappointing announcements.

Not only that but if your time doesn't count in the official standings you aren't really allowed in the race. It is like charging someone to be a bandit and still not counting their finishing time IMO.

I wonder if Disney looked at race demographics and realized they could attract more females? But this seems like the wrong way to do it.

I'm sure they do lots of market research. But doesn't a 68% female to male ratio for runners in Disney races mean you should be doing MORE marketing to men, not less?

Apparently men will get a medal for running. I bet the men have to start a corral back though - if not more, since a man won the Princess this year, despite that handicap.

Too bad, too - I was hoping to use a Disney race as an excuse for us to go visit Disneyland and see a SIL. S'ok - California has plenty of other races.
