New restrictions coming for pool use?

if they think they need to, they'll find a way to add fences that aren't horrible.

they're certainly might be temporary ones that look like straight from the home depot, but after they have time to make plans and allocate money I'd assume they'll get something better.

Kind of like security at the parks. Right after 9/11 it was makeshift as anything. Now it looks reasonable- not great in all respects but serviceable. Wile there's things that make it obvious it wasn't envisioned from day 1, it gets the job done.

If it means it might be easier to get a chair at a busy time of the year than I guess i'll take the good with the bad.

Will be interesting to see if DVC keeps the perk.

WDW is currently testing buses from AK to DTD thru the end of October.

1) But, this is for a specific reason and specific time frame.
. . . it is being done to try to get the early-closing AK people to spend money
. . . it is being done while the parking areas are torm up at DTD
2) This is not meant to be permanent.

. . . Boasting about knowing 'all the tricks" . . .

1) There are ways to sneak into ANY pool at WDW, including SAB.
2) There are ways to park free at ANY resort for both self-park and valet.
3) These efforts cannot and will not be totally stopped.
4) But, they pool fences will cut down a lot of it.

we should all pick a date and go swimming at 1 AM. make sure every single pool is covered. quietly , of course, but a lot of people, in protest.

lol can you tell which decade I grew up in? :lmao:

Does it definitely have to be a fence close to and around the pool? Or does it just have to be a method of restricting access to the pool?

I'd hate to see a fence around WL or AKL pools. However, maybe if it just needs to be a method of restricting access, then access control on the doors (more viable now with magic bands?) and gates near boat dock etc?

Disney keeps raising their rates on their bread-and-butter...the guests. At the same time, they hardly make any attempt to stop free-loaders at their pools.

Something's gotta give...it will probably be the guests finally deciding to spend a fortune somewhere else. Somewhere that they are made to feel *appreciated* for the money they are spending.

Just another reduction of services/amenities.

I say liability concerns here. This is not Disney trying to save money, this is Disney reacting once again to our lawsuit culture we have. Lawsuits continue to have a huge impact on how rules and our culture continues to be forced to change.

Couldn't they just put the fences up to keep little kids from running to the pool, unsupervised. And the fences could also keep free loaders out, if they make it accessible by magicbands! They could still keep it open at night as "swim at your own risk".

According to WDWMagic only the feature pools will get fences and have use hours. The quiet pools will remain available 24/7.

This makes it seem like it's more about keeping out pool hoppers than a safety issue.

I hope this is the case. Although, it's unfortunate for resorts that only have hot tubs at the feature pools and not at the quiet pools...as they'll be unavailable late.

Are pool hoopers an issue from 11PM to 7 AM??

I would think they are a bigger issue during peak hours when they can slip in with a bunch of guests. I don't think it's about keeping pool hoppers out from 11-7, though. I think it's about paying someone to keep an eye on fence hoppers from 7-11, when most pool hopping takes place.

Lots of good points-- If it was a FL building code change, I can't see where they could require a fence on some pools and not others. Hopefully just the main pools for pool "squatting" (ok maybe a bad choice of words)

I wouldn't think there would be squatters in the late night window either--hopefully they are just fencing in for magic band access, and the gates won't work during the off hours? It all doesn't make a lot of sense.

If it is a liability issue, a pool is a pool.

Wow. Find this to be an interesting thread. I'm a DVC member and by nature, a rule follower. I never knew that there was such a problem with non-resort people going to the pools. I guess I really never paid attention to the setups either. But now that I think about it, I had to scan at BLT to get into our pool and possibly the same for Khidani Village.

In my personal OPINION, I do think if Disney is putting up fences, it's a liability initiative. I also think that if there is such a problem with illegal pool use, folks should write Disney. It has been my experience, that while Disney is a corporation, they generally don't sacrifice the quality of their products to make money. They want organic growth. You watch the Disney channel, you learn about Disney artists, you buy the music, you buy the DVD, you buy the clothes...etc.

Every Disney Product is a portal to other Disney products.
