I figured if anyone knew the skinny on this, you guys would. If I am in the wrong forum, by all means move me tot he correct one.

I went to WDW this past weekend and noticed construction on a new resort Bonnet Creek Resort? What is this and how does it tie into Disney?

Thanks a million!

It is not a Disney resort. It is a new Fairfield timeshare resort, built on property surrounded on 3 sides by Disney property, and one side by I-4. To gain access to the property they had to tie into the Disney road system. I doubt it will have any "on-site perks", but it is a good location.

Just to add to what Chuck S wrote...

The Bonnet Creek Resort is right next to the Caribbean Beach Resort. As Chuck S noted, the construction is a non-Disney timeshare resort. But that's just the first project of what will be a much larger development.

For decades, the 482-acre site (which Walt Disney was unable to buy) has been owned by an mystery investor. A few years ago, the investor finally brought in a developer, Orlando-based Brooksville Development Corp. Brooksville brought in architect Guy Butler, who developed a master plan with four high-end hotels, a timeshare resort, and an 18-hole golf course

So far, Brooksville Development has not had any luck attracting hotels, despite the great location.

But Brooksville did sign a timeshare developer. Fairfield Resorts is building a 700-unit timeshare resort on 46 acres (less than 10% of the Bonnet Creek Resort complex). The timeshare resort is being built around a lake, right next to the CBR. By the way, Fairfield Resorts is a subsidiary of Cendant Corporation, and is not related to Marriott's Fairfield Inns and Suites.

In short, the hotels and timeshare at Bonnet Creek Resort will be the most "on-site" of the off-site resorts.

Hmm.

Thanks for the replys. I knew it wasn't Disney enough. Whatever that means. It is in a good location too.

Have a great day!

It's kind of sad that an "outside" company is building a resort so close to Disney property. I'm surprised the Disney executives couldn't find a way to buy up those remaining acres.

I agree, but they can't buy it if it wasn't "for sale". For all we know, the "land" is still owned by the original owner (or their heirs), and simply leased to the developer, like DVC leases the land from WDW.

saw the resort under construction last week... i wonder about transportation to the parks.... will the resort provide it? will they have there own mini-bus lines?... hmmm
