New Resort Announced!

I first thought this was a fake article but did some looking around and it does appear to be genuine. Overall, it does fit with Disney's international business model. As for today's politics, I think that's a minor point (less than 1% consideration). This park won't be up and running till 10 years from now or 2035. Long-range business planning. Plus, from what I read, Disney doesn't have to put up a single penny. It will be totally financed by others similarly to how Tokyo Japan operates. Seems to be a franchise branding model.

Other than the Tokyo park, most the parks seem unable to decide if they want to be museums or amusement parks. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the two most cutting-edge, future-facing parks will be non-Disney owned. I think Imagineers are probably salivating to get selected to work on this project; they're going to be allowed to do things budgets and executive-pragmatism would never allow them to otherwise dream of.
Except many Disney Cast Members can not travel there ...

Like I said, I'm steering clear of what my Western sensibilities view as human rights violations and commenting strictly on the logistical and creative implications of the announcements. The Imagineers you reference will, no doubt, not be salivating to work on the project if it means traveling to the UAE. Or maybe they will. I don't know.

My first thought too I mean, is this gonna be like an indoor park? Because how the heck is that gonna happen from May to September?

DH used to travel to the area for work and many things are domed or mostly indoors. There are even places with air conditioned sidewalks! With temps ranging from 115-125 in the summer, it has to be. And maybe Disney will learn some tricks they can apply in Florida? One can hope!

The entire island is only 9 square miles. Even with the option to dredge and create more land, it's likely this park will have a small footprint and entirely or mostly enclosed and climate controlled. He was there when Ferrari World opened and said it was basically two rollercoasters where portions of the tracks go outside, with a covered, air conditioned shopping and digital arcade in between.

I don’t want to get political, but Human Rights Watch is a good source of information on why I’d have strong concerns with Disney operating in this part of the world.
Yet "that part of the world" is inviting Disney, a company that promotes and supports certain human right issues, to become a permanent part of their culture. Maybe they are taking a big leap forward.

Kinda like the indoor ski slope when it’s 125 outside. 😳 we’re spending your vacation hanging out at the Dubai mall in AC.

It wouldn’t surprise me if they came up with some crazy idea to create an indoor frozen land with real ice and snow.

So what? At least they're investing in a progressive company like Disney.
Disney is a hypocritical company. They love to talk loud about inclusivity, DEI, etc. But in practice they actually do very little. They will censor anything that countries like China or The Middle East find offensive or objectionable. Just because they put on progressive face here does not mean they will there.
