New Refurbishments

UNREAL! I am really not happy about this. How can so many things be down at once? We are traveling from the east coast and I'm really getting discouraged.

We are coming from the east coast too, I'm also a little discouraged :(

From the east coast too. Was spoiled last year by having them release refurb dates further in advance so I could shift my dates around. Very aggravating that they're having some of our favorite rides down while we're there.

We have the worst luck with GRR. This time we are staying at the GCH and DD and I were really looking forward to being able to ride it and head right back to the room if we got soaked. Oh well.

Wow, GRR again! We were there over the weekend and it was down. When we go back next month it will be down again. I could use the cooling off in late April. ;)

I just made a thread about this because I saw that the Matterhorn, Monorail and the Swings are all closing next month, and I was wondering if anyone knew when they would reopen. I guess I got my answer. I'm very disappointed, I'm going to Disneyland for the first time this April and I cannot believe the Monorail will be closed. I'm sad about the Silly Symphony Swings too but the Monorail is really bothering me. How can they have the monorail down for so long? I'm trying to keep an open mind about this trip, but it's hard not to kind of wish I was going to Disney World instead. I don't even know the park hours for my trip yet and I'm 45 days away! Uggghhh!!!

Sorry for ranting, but coming all the way from the east coast for the first time, it gets discouraging.

I totally understand where you are coming from I feel very similar. I am just going to do my best to enjoy my trip and take it all in. I don't mind not having park hours as I think 180 days in advance to to far in advance to plan but we are so used to it not knowing 45 days in advance stress is out.

I have no really advice but I feel your pain, but hope you have an amazing trip

When I click on the maps I don't see that the matterhorn is closed? What am I missing or doing wrong?

We're also coming from the east coast in April. Sucks about the monorail and Autopia as we didn't go on it last time we were there. Luckily my daughter can do the Matterhorn the 2 days before it closes as she loves that ride.

Go to attractions and change the date to April 18th then click on Mattehorn then the map on that page and you will see the closure dates. You have to choose the attraction on a CLOSED day to see when it is down. Otherwise it just shows normal stuff :)

Lots of people coming from East Coast (April 16 - 24). That is the Spring Break week in MA and RI.
Curious to see that so many will miss the monorail. In WDW, we thought of it as just transportation and wasn't thinking about using it in Disneyland since we will be walking from hotel.
Is it different in Disneyland?

We will be there for NH spring break which starts April 23!! Monorail is pretty neat (scenic) at Disneyland but you do need a ticket if I'm not mistaken to ride it.

At Disneyland the Monorail is considered an attraction not transportation (though it can be used to get back & forth to DTD/DL). I love riding it to get an over view of the park.

Yes you need to have valid park admission (to Disneyland).

I agree, 180 is too much, but 45 isn't enough haha! Now that I've had time to think about this, I'm ok with these things being closed, I'd still like to go on the monorail, but I guess that means I'll have to look forward to it on a future trip!

I hope you have a great trip too!

While not an attraction, it also looks like the Pixar Play Parade may not be presented in April (while the F&W Festival is happening in DCA). The last date with a performance time is Monday, March 28.

New to the list:

Grizzly River Run - Apr 18 - May 17

That is so odd. It's been closed for about a month and opens next week. Why would they reopen it for a month and then close it again as the weather is finally warm? It's like they're opening it for Spring Break and then closing it again before summer. So crazy! They should have just closed it a month sooner and gotten all of the maintenance done during the cooler months.

I was guessing that maybe they didn't have the crews to start the closure a month earlier or they wanted to stagger the bulk of the closure so it didn't overlap with the Soarin' closure. I wonder if they've done the first portion of the work, then wanted it open for "Spring Break" season and then plan to finish up the refurbishment after "Spring Break" season ends, but before the Summer season starts.

We're coming from NH too but won't be at DLR until the end of the vacation. We're starting in SF and traveling down the coast. I'm a little bummed about GRR also. We're staying at GCH and were looking forward to getting way and heading right back to the room too. So the Matterhorn will be open April 28-30?
