New policy related: What day have you typically checked in?

What day of the week have you typically checked in (and by "checked in" I mean USING your points).

Keep in mind, we're talking about what you have done historically. NOT what you might do in light of the new policy.

We'll get to Length of Stay and "preferred new check in date" in different polls, later.

Thanks Kerri. That comment made me clarify my first post.

When I say "check in", I mean "check in and using your points".

Ditto. At least for the last year we have been DVC members. That's also what we plan on in the future. 6 nights seems about right to us with little ones in tow.

Yeah, us too. Actually, we stay THURSDAY to Friday, but do 2 nights cash (thursday and the first Friday night) and then check in to DVC on Saturday and stay til the following Friday.

I'd say that qualifies for "typically" (since it's what you do most of the time) checking in on Saturday.

I think everyone has some differences, from time to time, but I also suspect that MOST members have a "typical" travel pattern.....we'll see if that turns out to be true.

I picked Tuesday on the poll, but we actually usually check in midweek, so either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. We used to always come on Sunday, but decided that was too hectic with all the other folks always coming and going that day.

Sunday as well-but as you know I already got burned by trying to check in SV BWV at 7 months out Feb 8-Saturday would have been available as DVCBELLE was successful and grabbed 7 days. Not real sure when to try going forward.

While we do a long weekend for F & W, our longer stays begin at DVC on Sunday. We have used Priceline or paid cash at non-DVC resorts for Friday and Saturday nights.

Looks like we are a tad unusual with a Thurs. check-in. We get a jump on the school vacation and slightly lower priced flights.

The majority of our arrivals have been on Saturday -- for a conference running Sun-Thurs. However, the event has been offering new networking opportunities on the days leading up to the conference -- so these past two years we've been booking earlier arrivals (Wed or Thurs prior to the event). We'll see how that goes -- but I think I really like the longer stay.

That is us too...usually check in mid week and have been staying 3 weeks in Oct and March....don't think this is going to be easy....

Here's my logic (and we'll be able to suspect more after the other poll goes up):

If the most popular day to check in is Sunday, that FRIDAY is actually going to be the "easiest" day to call and get what you want. The reason I suspect that is that I'm assuming (and I have NO data to back it up) that most people stay 6 or 7 nights. That means those checking in on Sunday are likely checking out on Friday or Saturday. Given the weekend night "premium" on points, my wholly unfounded suspicion is they're checking out on Friday. So if you're checking IN on a Friday, all that inventory opens up. Likewise, because Friday is a "light" check in day (also due to the 'weekend premium'), Saturday looks like it will probably give you a decent shot.

Likewise, if you're checking in Monday - Thursday, you're likely going to have a more difficult time. Less inventory is probably opening up (again, based on my wholly unfounded assumption on length of stay) and more of it is "spoken for" by the Sunday crowd.

Sunday stays...you're going to be competing JUST like in DBD with a large pool of the membership all trying to get at inventory.

That's my hypothesis right now....we'll see how this poll, and the other polls, eventually play out.

Before the change in booking we typically would check in on Sunday through Sunday, spending the first Friday and Saturday night at Hard Rock Hotel and the second weekend at DVC.

Now.. we will check into DVC on Friday through Thursday, spending the last weekend at Hard Rock.

Same amount of days, same points, just flipping the Hard Rock Stay to the end of our vacation, to increase our odds for getting what we want at DVC.


SOooooooooooo I am not sure how to vote since we used to be Sundays which people think is bad for the new system, or do I vote for what we are going to be doing now?

Typically on Saturday. Next trip will be on a Monday. We are not consistent.
