I can't believe there is anything left to be said on this topic after 3,000 some odd posts!! :confused3

Well, someone just today posted some new/different information they received from MS ... the policy could very well still be evolving. :confused3

or just another example of DVC/Disney not consistently following procedures they have set up...if u don't like the answer u get the 1st time, call again & spin the wheel scenario:headache:

Question for the moderators. I realize you want to keep all conversation of this policy to this thread. However, I would like to see some results posted on the successes and failures at the 11 month window for reservations based on the new policy. Would you consider starting a new thread strictly for those to post what happened when they called at the 11 month so all members could get a better handle on how the new policy is affecting them. Any posts in the thread not adhering to the guidelines could be removed so that the thread would serve it's purpose. It's just gotten too difficult to follow everything in this thread due to it's length. I hope you'll give it some thought, but if not, I understand. Thanks, Bill

Because for the +7, one of the rules is that it needs to be the same resort/room/category. You can't do "split stay" in any form this way -- which is another problem with the new policy as those who own 3-4 days worth of points at 2 different resorts now need to either wait until the 1st day of 11 months of the second half of their stay or call twice to book.

Can split stays be accomplished by walking two separate reservations? I'd put the first few days stay in my name and the second few days stay in my DH name for the reservation if they'd have a problem with the same people booked into two different resorts for the same night just while the reservations were being walked...

I agree with Bill. I'd like to see this type of info as well. When I called to book our home resort at 9 months for early march there was plenty of availability. The CM at MS told me they think this new booking procedure is the greatest thing ever to happen. She said if I want to change resorts at 7 months there shouldn't be any problem at all because now more rooms at all resorts will be freed up. I don't understand her reasoning so I'd be very interested to know if other members are actually finding it easier to get what they want now.

That's a Great Question! :thumbsup2

To be honest, I really don't know. When I started this, it was just a proof of concept. Since we did not know what we could and could not do, I thought I'd just give it a shot. As questions became more elaborate, I've continued to use these reservations to test concepts and suggestions posted here (and elsewhere). I might let it go until they stop me, or December 2009 comes along -- whichever comes first -- as I'd probably use one of the reservations in December anyways. ;)

Dec 2009? You oughta be in great shape from all that "walking" by then! :rotfl:

This information is important to me, too.

Please?

Absolutely. You can book 11+7 at VWL and 11+7 and BWV, for example. Then, in 7 days, drop the last 4 days off of VWL and the first 3 days off of BWV to give you a net 3 Days at VWL followed by 4 days at BWV.

The issue with this, of course, is that you need to have the points available to do so. I've posted a suggestion on how to do this if you only have the points for 3-4 days at a time earlier in the thread. Many purchased smaller contracts for the purposes of split stays, so they are likely to be affected by the new policy in this way. Though, with some creative banking, borrowing, and point re-allocation, they may be able to find some success. ;)

It's just another 25 weeks or so ... :p

I might start to switch over to weekly walks on one of the reservations though, to see how it goes. :)

I think that's a great idea. That way we can see actual effects. Hopefully it will encourage a lot of members to post their results.:)

I'm not sure how more rooms at all resorts would be freed up based on this new policy. They may be finding that right now, the 7 month window is easier to book for some -- but that's because there really hasn't been anyone booking the days before at this point in time as the policy is still very new and I'd say only a small percentage of the membership are even aware of it.

I don't understand how more rooms are going to be available on any given day when others have had up to 7 day access to that inventory before you have. Regardless, no policy is going to create new rooms out of thin air. :confused3

That said, based on one of the responses a PP got from a supervisor in that there were 'no complaints', it's also possible that CM's are being instructed to talk this new policy up.

IMO, Again, this was done to reduce call volumes, that is what DVC is 'monitoring' at the moment. If this new policy reduces overall calls, they will keep it, regardless of who gets 'walked' over. :(

I think this is a good idea, but I also think it would need to be closely moderated. If the idea is just for folks to post their successes and failures, it could create responses from other posters asking questions or offering suggestions on how to maybe improve their chances in the future. Perhaps a Poll would be better? Something simple along the lines of:

How have your results been with the new policy?

Positive at 11 months
Positive at 7 months
Negative at 11 months
Negative at 7 months

Or something like that ... folks could post details of their experience in the poll thread, but it would also serve as an 'at a glance' view? Frankly, I'd like to see the details of the Resort/Room, but that makes the poll really complicated. :)

Maybe the moderators would be willing to give it a shot, with the understanding that if it becomes too burdensome that it will be closed and merged here?

:(

Exactly what I was thinking. I didn't want to take the time to keep questioning her on her reasoning though. I think you're right about them being instructed to "talk this new policy up" to members. She did mention that she herself is a member and she really thinks this new way will be terrific once they get everyone to completely understand it.

Mods, please let this thread happen.

I agree.
I have been here from the beginning and have been able to keep up with the theories and progress of walkers. I would not like to see it split since we are staying on the same topic and have hashed out a sorts of issues.

If it is split, for the ease of others, I hope the link will be posted.
This thread, like the old policy-if it ain't broke.....:goodvibes :thumbsup2

I disagree with a poll. I think that it needs to have a format, similar to the Rent/Trade Board. If people want to discuss, they can PM or come to this thread.

I think the important information for someone to share is:

What dates were you calling to reserve?
What size unit were you trying to reserve?
Did you call at the 11 month window, 7 month window or other?
Did you get what you wanted on the first call or were you shutout?
If shutout, did you waitlist?
Comments:

The comment section would allow a poster to detail if they made more than one call, how many days they WL, if the MS advisor knew what they were talking about, if they were shut out.

I think the dates and unit size information in crucial. We all know that those factors will be important to all who are reading here.

Like I said, I'll ask tomorrow when I call. In fact, I'll just try to book something and see what they tell me. I'll try:

First 2 Days at VWL and last 5 days at OKW
First 2 Days at SSR Studio and last 5 days at SSR 1BR.

That should tell us if there are any restrictions based on crossing resorts and/or room types. If I'm told I cannot do it, I'll suggest that they ask a supervisor as someone called yesterday (today) and understood this was now possible under the new policy. Any other suggestions?

I really want to know about the results of this test.
